Subject: Things that Survived the 2010s
Written By: oldmusicfan on 03/06/20 at 12:30 pm
What are some things that made it past the 2010s like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the music of Katy Perry, the music of Lady Gaga, the music of Justin Bieber, and Kardashian news?

Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Snapchat started in the 2010s. I’m talking about things that were around in the 2000s that are still present today.

You called your topic "Things that survived the 2010s", meaning things that survived throughout the decade. I don't understand. ???

In around the first three or four years, emo/scene, but otherwise I don't think much has survived.

It's hard to fathom that Modern Family actually aired in the same decade as F*R*I*E*N*D*S. The shows feel like they belong in two completely different eras in history.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was going off the air in the 2000s. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. belonged to the pre-2005 side of the 2000s. Modern Family was a 2010s show that premiered in the 2000s.

Obama's presidency, which started back in 2009. Obama was more 2010s than Trump as he presided from 2010 to 2016.

I think he's asking for things that were around in 2009 and also around in 2020. For example, inthe00s survived the 2010s. Obama's presidency ended in 2017, therefore it did not survive the 2010s.

That's only because he could not run again in 2016 (thanks to the 22nd Amendment, which was enacted 65 years earlier) and therefore had to leave office in '17.

Oh, my bad again. I thought oldmusicfan was talking about things surviving within the 2010s again. I get so confused.

Then why did you start this topic with mentioning Instagram when it debuted well into 2010?
I also disagree that the music of Katy Perry survived the 2010s. She clearly felt hard into irrelevancy in the second half of the 2010s. And the only way she can manage chart success nowadays is through fans' hype.

Everyone has different beliefs. 2010 is 2000s to me, but 2010 is the first year of the 2010s to you( ::)) because it is a part of the 2010s decade ( ::)). To the guy from the recent incarnation of The Joker’s Wild on TBS, 1995 was an early 90s year ( :o). We all look at things differently.

Because it is, and whatever definition of the 2010s you have is wrong.

Well they both were still on the air at some point in the '2000s decade', that's what I was getting at. Even though F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is more culturally linked to the 1990s and Modern Family is more culturally linked to the 2010s. Modern Family also doesn't seem that old in the grand scheme of things, despite it being on the air for over a decade now and despite it first premiering merely 5 years after F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was off the air. Heck, there were tons of politically incorrect jokes, with many veering towards being somewhat homophobic, on F.R.I.E.N.D.S. well until it's last season. Whereas two of the main characters on Modern Family were an openly gay couple and much of the comedy was definitely more toned down, compared to most sitcoms in the 90s & 00s. Just night and day between 2004, when F.R.I.E.N.D.S. ended, and 2009, when Modern Family began.
