Subject: Every #1 Hit of the 2010s
Written By: Slim95 on 02/25/20 at 12:55 pm
There's a video on YouTube that shows every number 1 hit song from 2010 to 2019. It's interesting seeing the progress of music in the 2010s. I think the difference in sound from the beginning to end is nowhere near as substantial as the 2000s. One thing I've noticed is how the early to mid portion (and a good chunk of the late portion) of the decade, music was a lot more overproduced and electronic. I remember people were complaining about that. While in 2018 and 2019 you can see music having more simplistic beats as the EDM trend died (Billie Eilish for example). And now I complain it's under-produced and boring. ;D
From this video, it seems the biggest transitional year for music was 2013. Then 2016 would be second but there was a bigger shift in 2013.
Video starts at 2:32

It's really fascinating seeing the music transition from being electric and happy to dreary and bass-heavy.

I may get hate for this but music (or at least the number 1 hits) was way better in the early 10’s. I may be biased because those were my teen/high school years but there seemed to be more of a chill/happy vibe within the 2010-2015 period...I seen the shift in the 2013 segment of the video although music still had a brighter and more happier vibe to it. Judging by this video there was a darker shift in 2016 that proceeded on with music during the last half of the decade. My overall fav years were 2010-2012.

Not from me. The early-mid 2010s (2010-2015) were a lot better than the later years because everyone just seemed to have a good time back then with music.
