Subject: Being a kid in the early 2010’s is underrated
Written By: Rainbowz on 02/04/20 at 9:18 am
I might be biased because I was an early 2010’s kid. But I honestly feel like the early 2010’s were an underrated time to be a kid.
-Minecraft, Club Penguin, and ROBLOX both being at their peak and in their golden age.
-The music was very upbeat. You had songs like “Party Rock” that were played in schools and everyone would dance
-We had trends like Silly Bandz and Zhu Zhu Pets that were very popular
-It was the golden age of YouTube
-We grew up with the very first black president. Kind of cool to think about
-We still had good enough technology, even though it wasn’t nearly as advanced as today.
-We had shows like Phineas and Ferb, iCarly, Victorious, Wizards Of Waverly Place
-The Wii was at its peak
Being an early 2010’s kid was honestly fun looking back.

I concur. I had lots of fun in the early 2010s. I watched Adventure Time and Regular Show religiously, listened to Top 40 music on the bus while knowing some of the lyrics from the songs, played on my Wii with original Wii Sports and Resort being my primary games, and society felt more relatively peaceful (aside the Occupy movements and Arab Spring) to me as a child.
And I think I had a Silly Bandz penguin before. ;D
I also think it's really cool that there are early 2010s nostalgia videos on YouTube from young people who grew up during the time.

I think being an early 10s kid is more appreciated now than being an early 2000s kid was in 2010 mostly because of the access of social media early 10s kids have now compared to what early 00s kids had a decade ago. Back in 2010 you almost heard nothing positive about the 00s.

That’s also probably because 00s kids aren’t sh...ing all over 2010s kids like 90s kids did to 00s kids in 2010.

Elements of emo and pop punk still existed and thrived at its best too at this time I guess although it would be killed off suddenly come around 2013.

According to my brother, everyone at his school was listening to the Simple Plan album from 2011, which I find hard to believe but oh well, another reason to love the early 2010s ;D

The Early 2010s just weren't for me, though that's probably because I was 11-14 during those years. I never liked electropop and Club Penguin seemed too childish for me by the time I first heard about it in 2011. I'm sure they would have been great though if you were under the age of 10.
-The Wii was at its peak
The Wii was actually at it's peak around 2007/08. It was a huge cultural phenomenon then, there was a lot of hype over the fact that it was truly an interactive console. They were still worth around $300 when I received a Wii for Christmas in 2008. By the Early 2010s, it had definitely declined in popularity and the PS3 had fallen down in price for most people to be able to afford it, which is why the Wii-U was released as it's successor in 2012. I personally don't remember anyone who still used a Wii by around 2011.

Wii was popular from 2007-2010 roughly, but there later was Just Dance which sold gangbusters on the Wii from 2011-2014. Xbox One was bundled with Kinect, partly to try to steal the Just Dance thunder from the Wii. By the time the Xbox One came out however, the Just Dance fad had ended.

It seems that the early 2010s was mostly a PS3, Xbox, PC era where games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Skyrim, and Minecraft were on top.

I feel like it may because the early 2010’s doesn’t feel like that long ago yet. Also most of the childhood trends of the early 10’s were highly saturated in corporate based products that were based upon the internet. I could be a bit biased because my childhood was in the early to mid 2000’s...

I'm right there with you guys. But as I've said before, those our age who grew up in the early 2000s are vastly outnumbered on other sites by those grew up in the late 2000s-early 2010s. It's all ogre now. :\'(
It's fine though. I mean, there's only so many times you can relish the greatness of Courage the Cowardly Dog without getting bored, lol. Now it's younger peoples' turn to relish the likes of Adventure Time.

But yeah, being a kid in the early 2010s must've been good (even though I wasn't a kid then), and was an improvement over late 2000s kid culture. You had the CN renaissance, acclaimed video games like Skyrim, Minecraft, and Dark Souls, memes being more innocent, etc.

Slightly OT, but the Late 2000s don't get enough raps, I rarely see people talking about them without grouping them with the Early 2010s (which were completely different IMO). If I were to take my nostalgia goggles off and look at the two eras from an objective point of view, I would agree that the Early 2010s were the more "kid-friendly" time for pop culture and probably the better era for kids overall. However, the Late 2000s definitely had their own merits as well.
Being an 8 year old in 2007 was great. Top-40 music was more diverse, "The Simpsons Movie", "Spider-Man 3" and "Transformers" were released, there were kids shows such as the Grim Adventures of Bill & Mandy and Ned's Declassified, a lot of shows from the Mid 2000s carried over into the later years of the decade. They were also arguably the last pre-smartphone era, as well as the last era in which rock music was still a dominant cultural force. The Late 2000s were the perfect blend of modern technology (e.g YouTube, Facebook, iPods), however it had yet to reach a point where it was consuming people's lives 24/7. By 2010/2011, smartphones had become ubiquitous and iPads/tablets emerged onto the scene.

True, but back then people didn't just outright said they were early 00s kids or just ignored the good things from the 00s and put it with the 90s. I saw this a lot in particular with pokemon post gen 1, songs from the early 00s often been called the 90s (I'm talking as late as 2003), video games seems to be the only postive things from the 00s that got acknowledged back then.

Early 00s kids (including myself) used to say the 90s didn’t really end until 2004, or even 2005, because of all the 90s childhood nostalgia/gatekeeping online. Then in the mid 10s, early 00s nostalgia became a thing in its own right.

Humanity peaked 2009-2014. After the 2000s (the decade from hell) and the recession, our expectations were at rock bottom, but we really knocked it out of the park.
I think Lizzo is our last hope to make the early 2020s great. Guys, buy her album and stream it on Spotify and YouTube.

I had no problem with the early 2010's the whole time it was going on and the whole time I was on this site. I always preferred the early 10's over the late 00's any day. I'll make my early 10's nostalgia billboard from my view as a teen later on. Not right now tho, and when I do it, I'm going to expose the positive things about the early 10's we all miss.

Our childhoods were definitely influenced by the 90s, but to say our childhoods were bad because we didn't grow up in the 90s or to overlook all the great things the 00s gave us and group it with the 90s is pretty ageist. A youtuber I use (sodaboy) to watch back in 2016 did a video on what qualifies being a 90s kid and he mentioned that mid 90s borms are 00s kids with a 90s influence whereas late 90s borns are pure 00s kids.

The early 2010s were definitely better in almost every aspect than the late 2000s. We had an economic recovery, highly active video game scene, cartoons becoming great again, etc.

I still enjoyed aspects of kid culture in the late 00s (particularly 07-08) like Bakugan, Pokemon 4th generation, Total Drama Island, wwe smackdown during that time (even though wwe went pg that year) and the frist few seaons of Icarly.

Let me say that some of the particularly bad actors (Sargon of Akkad, Milo Yiannopoulos, and the more obscure Dave Cullen) thrived in this era. Thing is, Cullen is a gender policing scumbag who agreed with Chinese state media on gender (agreeing with China politically is generally a bad thing to do considering their incredibly opaque regime) and propped a religious fundamentalist despite then being a self-proclaimed atheist.
I know about these people because I got bored one time and found them somewhat by coincidence.
I think this edgy stuff (outside of the ones who don't rant so much about politics) empowered some of the worst people around to influence society as of 2016, where there's another air of mistrust I believe.

Everyone might have bashed on the early 2010s. They don’t anymore because they’ve moved on to bashing the late 2010s instead.
Everyone used to call the early 2000s terrible too. 80s babies used to bash us for growing up in the 2000s. Things change. The early 2000s were good to us because we were children. They were nothing amazing in general.

Oh, I hated that long hair on guys looked like it was going to die and that the vibe of the 2000s was fading, but I would still prefer the early 2010s aesthetic over the rest of the 2010s' aesthetic.

I actually like both early 2000s and early 2010s culture.
As someone who experienced both, I prefer the early 2010s over the early 2000s. That has a lot to do with my age though, I loved my university years. Elementary school was mehhh especially 2001-2003, I hated it at the time.

Sorry to hear that. But I still enjoy a lot of songs, games, and TV shows from that time period.

You’re essentially saying you won’t be nostalgic for any culture after you were 11 years old which is honestly just sad. I’m glad I don’t have your mindset.

Just speaking from the way I see it. There are some who think things started to suck in 1997. I can see why they would think that but I would not go that far although I will say this: things have definitely been getting progressively worse and worse on the whole. Not saying there is nothing good at all in the culture but on the whole things have been getting a lot worse compared to before. I don't even wanna know what music will sound like in 2050 for example. It may be so bad it will make Nikki Minaj sound like Beethoven lol.

I also feel like the early 2010s were the last popular era of kids' TV because shows like iCarly, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Victorious had massive ratings (compared to today's dying cable TV) when I searched their ratings performances.
Victorious scored 3.5 million in its premiere: https://www.google.com/amp/s/tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/network-press-releases/nickelodeons-victorious-tops-basic-cable-in-total-viewers-in-time-slot-with-3-5-million/amp/
iCarly's "iSaved Your Life" episode had a whopping 11.2 million viewers when it premiered :o: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iCarly_episodes
Wizards of Waverly Place's finale had a total of 9.8 million viewers:
