What did you think of this year? Do you think 2019 still felt a 2010's year?

It's definitely a late 10's year culturally. Still feels the same as 2017 and 2018. Songs like "Sucker" by Jonas Brothers and "Bad Guy" by Billie Elish really have that late 10's sound. Overall this year has been more stale compared to 2018. I'm hoping 2020 to be better. In my personal life it's had ups and downs. Overall I'd say it was ok. I've had worse.

I didn't really like this year even though it did have it's ups and downs, I hated when half this year was a lot of mass shootings and constant talk about Trump almost every day, it was getting quite annoying.

Feels the same as 2016 up until now... No difference at all really, maybe little minor differences compared to 2016. If I had to sum up 2019, I would say very, very boring and depressing overall. Slightly better than 2018 but still horrible. The late 2010s were just really bad, same as the early 2010s mostly. This whole decade was bad.

Definitely on what the 2020s are like, I'd either say 2019 is late 2010s or the 2020s began in 2018.
I think spiritually the 2010s kind of died with the Fyre Festival.

Why do you think a new era started in 2018? Because o Billie Eilish? (lol, everyone thinks she's the next Lady Gaga but she's a nobody). There is no difference today compared to 2016... Let alone 2017. Heck even 2015 has some similarities to today.

That whole colorful 2010s vibe ended sometime in 2018 I think. The whole bright color, EDM, hipster thing. I mean it's still around in pockets if you look for it but it's definitely not the same as it was in 2010-2017.

Personally I disagree because I don't see much difference really. Any changes have been extremely gradual in the second half of this decade.

Some 2020s things I see emerging are the rise of convincing fake meat (like the Beyond/Impossible burgers, which are at Burger King and Carl's Jr) and electric cars taking up a significant portion of the market now (I think it's about 2% of the US market if you include hybrids).

Let's just say 2019 is boring! Music is significantly dimmed down for a more darker lo-fi vibe instead of the happy EDM we had in 2011-2018. It's not motivating, its repetitive, etc. I do like Billie Eilish, not gonna lie, it's just that the decline of EDM made me less happy and motivated. Movies are ok, but there are some bad movies this year. Summer 2019 was the most boring summer I've ever had, the music, games, etc. I barely hung out with friends this summer because I had a form of minor depression, because I was used from a group of fake friends. The only positives I could give for this year are stranger things season 3, It was fun to watch. I also liked the Galaxy S10 release, Infinity war, and Lizzo. Still, 2019 has been the most underwhelming year of my life, and its forgettable and horrible. It was traumatizing.

By the way slim, I wish what you said was true. I wish it was still 2016, and I know you'll disagree with me but I miss the EDM/Bubblegum Pop sound. I wish games were more exciting when they get released like in 2016. Like I said, not every 2019 song is terrible. I do like Billie Eilish, shes talented and its nice to have a singing career. Let's take late 2018 for example, it's a great time because she had her debut album around September, and yet there were still lots of EDM songs topping the charts. I get that EDM would be repetitive too, but I want a new genre that's happy and EDM-Inspired at least. If 2019 was late 2018, it would've been a great time.
"I want you to be happier" -Bastille, 2018.

Well to me it feels the same as 2016 today. No dramatic difference. Music always changes every year, but the overall style and sound did not change.

2019 was one of the first years we really started to notice climate change screwing us over. Just look at Australia right now. The pictures look apocalyptic. Also the horrible fires in California, the floods in Venice, the Amazon literally burning.. I haven’t had to wear a heavy coat once this year and it’s December 6th. That’s not normal where I’m from. 2019 is when we went from calling it climate change to a climate crisis.

Sadly it's come to the point where it's just regular news. It's always the same cycle. First the incident occurs, and then thoughts and prayers on social media, and then debating the motive and gun control, and then just going about our daily lives (usually when the next viral meme or big event comes out).

I think in terms of shootings 2019 was at least a little bit more tame compared to previous years. Don't have the stats to back it up but I think there were less attacks than in 2017 and 2018. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I haven't really been able to pay much attention to pop culture this year because for me, for around half the year now, I've been concerned about trying to avoid my parents with their involvement in two multi-level marketing schemes, so it's been stressful.
This is also combined with me on my final year of university and having some genuinely disturbing thoughts too, that I feel reflect on me badly on who I am since sometimes I don't feel bad about them too.
I'm on my third session with an online therapist so far, but I guess partly because of time limits, I feel like I'm going nowhere. Still gonna try and keep on with that though. I am looking to move out and isolate myself more if I don't get better and/or come May next year.

2019 sucked but so did 2018. I honestly didn't expect the late 2010s to be so bad pop-culture wise that I feel bad for complaining about pop culture and music back in 2015. I didn't think it can get so bad that it would end up being even worse than the early 2010s pop culture... And y'all know how much I hate the early 2010s. If it wasn't for 2016 and 2017 which weren't as terrible as 2018 and 2019, then the late 2010s would officially be the worst era of the decade. But that prize has to still go to the early 2010s by a small margin. I will say both 2018 and 2019 sucked a lot more than any early 2010s year, never expected that. There's no way pop culture can get worse in the 2020s, but then again I said that betore. I am hoping for an improvement.

For me the mid '10s were the worst of the decade, and probably my entire life. Especially 2013 and 2014. 2015 and 2016 were better by comparison. Overall the late '10s were better as far as my work/life situation. 2019 pretty much sucked though, mainly because of the lack of music to listen to. At least that would have brightened the mood. I've had a lot of great moments this year, but a lot of struggles as well, mainly financially.

As for me, 2019 was decent overall. I think it will be like 2014/2015 where I don't care for it as it's happening, but given some time, I will look back on it fondly.
