Subject: Why Are Parodies Dead Now?
Written By: Slim95 on 06/26/19 at 1:55 am
I really loved parodies this decade of popular songs and music videos from the likes of Bart Baker, The Key of Awesome, and others. But now all of these channels don't make anymore parodies and don't post any videos on their channel. Why did parody culture die? While this decade wasn't great I really enjoyed that aspect of this decade. But why is it dead now and not popular? Is it because music these days is a parody in itself? I hope it makes a comeback they always made me laugh and were funny. Bart Baker was one of my favourites on YouTube.

parodies are still being made, Are you referring to what Weird Al Yankovic used to do? ???

Parody culture was at its best when MAD TV was on FOX regularly, and many other comedy parody shows throughout the 90's and 00's. I feel like a lot of parody culture moved onto YouTube and social media in the later years up to now.

I think he's referring to how every popular MV used to have a parody version on YouTube but not anymore.

But today it is not on YouTube anymore too. But I agree I miss MAD TV.

Parodies are not being made anymore. Al Yankovic doesn't make parodies anymore either.

I guess it's harder to do parodies when the original lyrics are already unintelligible. But then again, Weird Al managed to make it work.

Copyright laws are pretty tight on sites like YouTube nowadays so maybe they play a role in that?
The Key of Awesome was okay, although it never really grabbed me as something more than a few cheap laughs here and there. Bart Baker has always been pretty godawful and just pure cringe though.
Epic Rap Battles were much funnier and creative than your typical parodying stuff and is something I probably miss the most out of earlier YouTube culture.

Bart Baker was my favourite. That's my kind of humour lol.

I also forgot to say that this strongly divided, politically correct world the last few years is another reason why parodies have gone on a huge decline. There's a lot of jokes that were still okay only a few years ago you can't say now otherwise you'll get in big trouble in many different ways.

They're played out.
That's true, you could say it was a fad like hopefully reaction videos will be

He took a song title and made it fun.

Why not? ???
That's what my question is (as in the question of the title this thread.)

It feels for me that all the best songs have been done, and judging by today's standards there is nothing significant to parody.

you can, but you'll probably make people if you talk about how stupid their music is
