Subject: LG Now Selling 8K TV Sets
Written By: LyricBoy on 06/03/19 at 5:26 am
Electronics manufacurer LG is now putting 8K television sets on the market. 8)

List price is a bargain at $42,000. :o
When my 19-inch tube style TV wears out, I might consider ine of these 8K jobbies. Although by then they’ll probably be out with 9K models.

Mathematically, the next one up wouldn't be 9K, it would (probably) be 16K.
640 x 480 (standard definition; 4:3 aspect ratio)
720 x 480 (anamorphic widescreen DVDs)
1280 x 720
1920 x 1080
3840 x 2160 (4K) (2x the dimensions of 1080p; 4x the resolution)
7680 x 4320 (8K) (2x the dimensions of 4K; 8x the resolution of 4K; 16x the resolution of 1080p)
15360 x 8640 (16K) (2x the dimensions of 8K; 4x the resolution of 8K; 16x the resolution of 4K; 64x the resolution of 1080p)

Well the 9k models will be 8640 x 4860, and will show 26.6% more detail than the 8k.

I bought two new t.v.s in the last 5 years. The problem I have with the new ones are the sizes. For the bedroom, a 36 inch would have been good but they do not come in 36 inches. They have either 32 (too small) or 40 inch (too big). That is an 8 inch difference between the sizes. I think we went with the 40 inch.
For the living room, it was the same thing. They had 43 inch and then a 50 inch. Again, there is a 7 inch difference. Something in between would have been nice but nope. Who ever decided on just those sizes... It would be nice if they had them say, 30 inch, 32 inch, 34 inch, 36 inch....etc. etc. I think we went with the 50 inch.

4K hasn't even become the standard yet and they are already pushing for 8K? It's going to take a few more years before 4K becomes the new HD. I would be surprised if 8K became the norm before 2030.
Question for some of the people here: When did 1080p become the standard? I know that sometime during the 2000s 720p became the usual standard and then came something called 1080i, and then 1080p. Do you guys remember this? All of the stuff that came before the 1080p LED flat screen TV. The era of the first flat screen TVs which were always either LCD or Plasma. the last days of the CRT. If so can you elaborate?

I think the first time I heard people fussing about 1080p was in 2012, so definitely somewhere in the early 2010s.

Anything past 1080p is really gimmicky.

The TV in our living room is still 720p 🤕 but it does its job.
Seriously though, there's literally no video content available to the average person in 2019 that's in 8K so what even is the point of an 8K TV??

To be the first to have one, I guess. :D

My TV is 1080p. I use a 720p TV as a PC monitor.
The funny thing about 8K right now is that we don't even have 1080p broadcasts in the US yet. 1080i max. Don't ask me why. Probably something to do with 24p compatibility. Who the hell knows?

2000s standard: 720p/1080p
2010s standard: 1440p/4K
2020s standard: 8k/???

Huh what? There all are off. 4K is nowhere near the standard, let alone 8K becoming a standard. This would be much more accurate:
2000s standards: 480p/576p, with 240p incredibly common on the internet and 720p taking over near the end.
2010s standards: 720p, 1080p, while 4K is still being niche so far

I meant upper standard, particularly for TV and gaming. The highest achievable resolution standards by the end of each decade.
