Subject: Who else thought 2018 would be transitional!
Written By: 1997days on 05/02/19 at 6:29 pm
Not because of 08 just because by 2018 like now the 2010s culture was long in the tooth and with the whole 2016 presidential election it felt like not only 2016 would be transitional but the upcoming years would be like 2017 or 2018.Now I know there was a transition in 2016 but I'm talking about a transition on level of 08.obviously the 08 transition was like a once in a generation type if transition and that one really needed to happen but 2016 was similar ad it was a huge election which could of been like 08.what do you guys think.

There's no law that says because 2008 is changeful that 2018 should be too. Those two years are unrelated to each other. ;D
That said 2018 had some interesting changes. It seems a lot new artist came in in late 2017 and came to define 2018. The Cambridge Analytica scandal early in the year quickly changed the mood around tech from one of something that could change the world for the better to something we fear might completely control our lives against our will. The #MeToo movement blossomed in late 2017 but it was in 2018 where its major impacts were felt. The economy went from booming at the beginning to slowing down hitting the brakes the end. Fashion was also very changeful with the baggy trend gaining huge steam that year, and I imagine this is what will be the dominant style going into the early 2020s.

I thought 2018 would be transitional too, but it just felt like 2017 part 2. Let that be a lesson that every decade is not the same.

I thought so too, and I was hoping it would be. But there were very tiny changes like the Big Bang theory and Game of Thrones shows announcing their ending, A few core 2010s artists coming off the charts, and Billie Eilish coming up to the charts, its just like a 7% change. Other than that, 2018 and probably now is still extremely 2010s, but at least the very tiny changes goes to show that not everything lasts forever. This whole 2010s vibe has been boring since 2018 in my opinion, but it wont last forever.

Well, one big transition of 2018 is that people started saying Gen Z a lot more, whereas before 2018 they refused to acknowledge Gen Z existed.

I think 2019 is shaping up to be very transitional.
I'm kind of surprised a lot of people don't notice how different this year is to previous years. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think we're in a very smooth transitional period but I can definitely see how all the generations are bumping up to the next stages and how it's affecting everything.

I think Gen Z got the attention with all the Tide Pod drama from last year.

Yes, 2019 seems a little different, with 2010s culture kinda falling apart with cancelling or ending shows, and new artists taking over the charts like Khalid and Billie, but 2019 is the darkest year compared to the rest of the 2010s.

i did, i thought it was going to follow the same patterns as 98 and 08, but it seems as if the 2010s follows the same line as the 1980s instead and continues into the early 2020s

I think it was the series of mass protests high school students staged in response to the shootings in Parkland and Santa Fe.
