Richardson’s decision isn’t novel: 68 percent of Americans have either quit or taken a break from social media this year, according to the Pew Research Center.

I don't think the article had much to do with the downfall of social media—it was more about how the creators of various social media regret the monster that they created: they set out to make the world a better and more sociable place, but fear they've done the opposite. It was an interesting read.

You have to remember there are different types of social media. They aren't all like FB and Twitter. People are always going to want some kind of virtual escape from life and a place to connect with others over things they might not be able to offline.

I've been thinking about deleting my social media for the past couple of months. I'll definitely delete my ig but I mainly use twitter to look at art and I use facebook to sell my textbooks. And I communicate with my best friend on snapchat. So this has made me deleting social media much more complicated.

Pardon the bump but I wonder if the social media backlash could lead to the revival of more old-school, individual forum communities like these.

I remember this video game forum I was a member of in 2008-2010. It used to be really active. Now it's dead as a dodo. Most forums suffered a lot with the huge growth of social media. I guess there was no need for them anymore.
This forum is surprisingly active to be honest.
