Subject: Reboots: Which Ones Should be Done

Written By: LyricBoy on 11/03/18 at 4:24 pm

Ok, so we have had several threads here discussing reboots that are either excellent and long in the coming, or ones that are unwelcome and destined to TV suckdom.

So... what shows do YOU think SHOULD be rebooted?

I'll start off with Diff'rent Strokes.  8)

Another reboot I'd like to see is Kung Fu.

Name one reboot that superior to the original?

Granted it was a TV show rebooting a movie, but it was far more popular.

Also the reboot of Battlestar Gigantica back in '04-'09 was awesome, and it ran longer than the original.

Sorry, but Different Strokes just cannot be rebooted because it's going to be difficult to have the actors that will be able to portray the actors in the original sitcom.

Well, in that case, I think VH1 should reboot the I Love the 90s mini-series. You could tell the first one from 2005 was put together by 80s fans because they made the 90s appear as if it were the blandest time for all of us on earth. America deserves a better edition of the mini-series for people who love the 1990s.

Here’s the topics I would include in each year of the early 90s:

1990

- The Simpsons
- Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You”
- Mike Tyson losing to Buster Douglas
- Pretty Woman
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film
- Lambada and The Forbidden Dance
- Twin Peaks (with a mention of how ABC was then known for America’s Funniest Home Videos and Doogie Howser MD)
- Sinead ‘O Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”
- Dick Tracy (with a mention of Tim Burton’s Batman from the year before)
- Guess Jeans clothing ads
- Digital Underground’s “The Humpty Dance”
- Fanny Packs
- Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love”/En Vogue’s “Hold On”
- Goodfellas
- “I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up” Life Alert commercial (with mention of the “Bo Knows” Nike commercials)
- Ghost
- The Fresh Prince of Bel Air/Parker Lewis Can’t Lose
- Polly Pockets
- Home Alone
- Slap bracelets

1991

- Vanilla Ice vs. MC Hammer
- Super Bowl XXV and “Wide Right”
- Family Matters
- C&C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”
- Rollerblades
- The Silence of the Lambs
- Hypercolor shirts (with a comparison to mood rings that returned at the time)
- Thelma & Louise
- Geraldo’s “Rico Suave”
- The Bugle Boy Jeans commercial
- New Jack City/Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up” (with a small reference to Another Badd Creation who also had “Badd” in their band name)
- Super Soakers
- Point Break (with a brief mention of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure)
- Amy Grant’s “Baby Baby”
- Boyz N The Hood (with mention of N.W.A.)
- Terminator 2: Judgement Day
- Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”
- Paul Reubens busted for his stint at the adult theater (with reference to “Pee Wee’s Playhouse”)
- Garth Brooks
- Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill sexual harassment hearings
- Beverly Hills 90210/popularity of Baja hoodies due to Dylan McKay

1992

- Starter jackets/beepers
- Reebok’s Dan and Dave commercials
- Wayne’s World film
- American Gladiators
- Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy”
- Basic Instinct
- The Ren and Stimpy Show on Nickelodeon (with brief mention of Rugrats)
- Dan Quayle and Murphy Brown
- Kris Kross
- MTV’s The Real World
- Treasure Troll dolls (with a mention of the stick-on earrings that were sold at the time)
- White Men Can’t Jump
- Cross Colours clothing
- The Dream Team
- The I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter commercials with Fabio in them
- Relationship between Woody Allen and his stepdaughter
- The Grunge movement (the clothes, artists, and movie Singles)
- Ross Perot
- Madonna’s Sex book
- The Bodyguard

I’ll even do one for the modest mid 90s (the 90s everyone knows), because I’m in the mood today to discuss them:

1993

- Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg
- Mortal Kombat
- Marge Schott
- Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis
- Barney and Friends
- Leprechaun
- Snow’s “Informer”
- Waco Siege
- Blind Melon’s “No Rain”
- FOX’s Martin/In Living Color
- Crystal Pepsi
- Aerosmith’s Get a Grip album
- MTV’s Beavis and Butthead
- Indecent Proposal
- HBO’s Tales from the Crypt
- John and Lorena Bobbitt
- Jurassic Park
- The first Chicken Soup for the Soul book
- Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain”

- The Fugitive
- Home Improvement
- Dazed and Confused

1994

- Mrs. Doubtfire
- Animaniacs (with a small mention of Tiny Toon Adventures)
- Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
- Reality Bites/Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You)”
- Melrose Place
- Zima
- New York Rangers winning the Stanley Cup
- Beck’s “Loser”/ Radiohead “Creep”
- The Flintstones (with a brief mention of the first Addams Family movie)
- Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan
- George Foreman grill
- Speed
- My So-Called Life
- Tommy Hilfiger
- Forrest Gump
- Seinfeld
- Pulp Fiction
- Ricola commercials
- The OJ chase
- Clerks/Dumb and Dumber

1995

- Boyz II Men’s II album
- NewsRadio
- Legends of the Fall
- Tattoos and piercings
- Montell Jordan’s “This is How We Do It”
- Bad Boys
- M&Ms commercials/Wendy the Snapple Lady
- Starbucks
- X games and MTV Sports
- The “hemp” debate
- Hugh Grant and Divine Brown (with a small mention of Four Weddings and a Funeral)
- TLC’s CrazySexyCool album
- Moviefone
- Waterworld
- Rednex’s “Cotton Eye Joe”
- Dangerous Minds/LV and Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise”
- Clueless
- Friends/The Rachel haircut
- POGS
- Toy Story

That would be really great if VH1 could have those on next year or in the 2020s.
