I remember in July 2012 I went on a boat to watch the dolphins but my mom got seasick and I felt sick too but I didn't throw up like my mom. ;D ;D I definitely didn't like it. ;D ;D ;D

This is the first summer that I would say kicked off 2010s culture. These photos feel more connected to today than the ones from 2010 & 2011

I remember this! Was 7 back then. I remember summer of 2012 - I loved everything about it! I was outside all the time, got my first electronic device that year (the iPad 2,) and everyday seemed like an adventure... I loved the pop music, too! I'd say 2012 still looks relatively 2000s, but it was starting to look like the 2010s that we've come to know.

I disagree. 2000's culture was already way out by 2012, this looks nowhere near like the 2000's.
2012 was when Emo and Scene were officially gone and hipsters came. 2012 was also when iPhones were officially popular and when trap was getting started (but not really popular yet) 2012 was when the electropop era was starting to die down. There's very little that makes 2012 looks 2000's. There may have been 2000's influences, but there were not really a lot and 2010's culture was pretty much in by 2012.

I miss uni. The dubstep parties were rave asf back and then there was Gangnam Style! I hit legal drinking age (19) and made a few unfortunate decisions ;D But I regret nothing! My favourite summer.
The summer was so long though, for real. I remember we got shorts weather warm in March and it didn't relent until October. Seriously, GOAT summer.

2012 a year I can not remember but is still canon (unlike 2009) lol
I remember when Hipster culture hit that apex in 2012, this is also when you started seeing open air mall
centers get big, with hipster influences such as whole foods

I don't know if I'd call Whole Foods hipster-influenced, when it predates the hipster subculture by a number of years.

Pop culturally, I'd say 2013.
-It was when Vine released and became popular
-It was when electropop was no longer popular
-It was when Snapchat became popular towards the late part of 2013 (almost 2014)
-Hipster fashion was popular
-Popular artists like Ariana Grande became more popular, which is still relevant today

Unlike 2014, 2013 didn't seem to have SJWs, the Alt-right, and ISIS.
2014 seems more connected to 2015 and 2016 than it was to 2012 and even 2013.

I think overall 2013 had more in common with 2010-2012 than 2014-2016 despite the fact that some mid-2010s stuff started in 2013. Music was still very upbeat, games like Minecraft were the most popular games, and Hunger Games was arguably at its peak. Also, trends like "Harlem Shake" and songs like "What Does The Fox Say?" just scream early 2010s to me. Vine was also still not very popular and Snapchat was unheard of for most people.

Not really. Vine was very popular in mid-late 2013. It got popular very quickly, and 2014 was the peak year for it or the 2013-2014 school year.
Also, Snapchat got popular at the tail end of 2013 (so it's mostly a mid-late 2010's thing) but it was starting to rise in 2013 though.

Also, I just wanted to add that when it comes to music, 2013 had way more in common with 2014 than 2012 IMO. In 2012, electropop was past its peak but still relevant, whereas in 2013 and 2014, it was done and over with, and mid-2010's influences started coming in.
Also, 2013 was when you noticed trap starting to become more popular. Here are a few examples:
kf0Xes7pbkw
misXgTsmxAA
rF-hq_CHNH0
iXZxipry6kE
All these songs have more in common with the 2014-2015 era for hip-hop than the 2010-2012 era IMO.

I'm not sure about hip-hop (you seem to know more about it than I do) but music had more in common with 2012 IMO. You can see how 2013 is closer to 2012 when comparing the top songs of 2012-2014
2012:
1-Somebody That I Used To Know
2-Call Me Maybe
3-We Are Young
4-Payphone
5-Lights
2013:
1-Thrift Shop
2-Blurred Lines
3-Radioactive
4-Harlem Shake
5-Can't Hold Us
2014:
1-Happy
2-Dark Horse
3-All Of Me
4-Fancy
5-Counting Stars
But tbh, I've always thought of 2012-2014 to be its own era. The Hipster era maybe?

"Thrift Shop", "Harlem Shake" and "Radioactive" came out during 2012 but were popular in 2013. I'm talking about songs that actually came out during 2013.
Also, "Counting Stars", "Happy", and "All Of Me" all came out during 2013, so they are technically 2013 songs that were popular in 2014.

Summer of 2012 was a great time in general, especially July. I remember it for traveling around Italy and Switzerland with my now ex-fiance. The song "Call Me Maybe" reminds of that time, as well as "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry.

Speaking of which, a very interesting coincidence, I had really long hair in summer 2012, and as I was walking down the street, one man stopped me and said "Hey, I'll cut your hair! I just opened up my shop." I thought it was really rude of him and vowed to never go there. But by the end of the year I was there, it was in a convenient location and also, he's one of the most popular barbers in the Toronto area now :P
He specializes in... fades (undercuts), it's in the shop's name actually. Literally a 2000s killer :P

2012 didn’t really have much 2000’s undertones in my opinion. I think summer of 2011 was the last time period to have any traces of the 2000’s left. Starting in fall 2011/spring 2012, it was pure 2010’s culture and everything felt like it shifted to appeal to the next generation. Speaking of summer 2012, I wasn’t too fond of it. Not my least favorite summer but it was a really confusing time. I was 14 years old then and a lot of entertainment seemed to be trying way too hard to be everything. Culture became more “dubstep” and “internet slang” esque and a lot of 2000’s entertainment was either shelved entirely or changed for the worse. I have a little bit of nostalgia from that summer but I wouldn’t call it good. A lot of the cartoons at that time had became either really mean-spirited, psychotic, lazy, random or all four. The only cartoons from that year I really enjoyed were Gravity Falls, Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Wild Grinders and Robot and Monster. I’m not fond of 2012. I prefer 2018 over it, times now feel more developed and orderly.

2012 underdeveloped as hell, Was not a fan of it at all, it was like the 2000s hold overs (the remaining things that COULD be left) we all gone, and the early 2010s culture was like HEY time to work on this stuff that is not developed at all from 2010!
