Subject: Caramelldansen 2018
Written By: SailorSteven2017 on 06/02/18 at 8:16 pm
Hi Y'all! So, if you don't know this song, it was originally by the Swedish group Caramell. It was then remixed and (re)published in 2008 along with a 3D music video (slash meme lol). In celebration of its ten year anniversary, the Caramella Girls channel remade the video last week :). Even if you're haven't seen any of the videos in your entire life, which one do you think is better and was the remaster worth it?

I don't know how I missed this back in 2008. I like the 2018 version better.

Oh wow. I remember how popular this was back in the early YouTube days. Everyone would re-animate this with their fav character and it was just fun to watch. Idk why haha! ;D ;D

I maintain that the Caramelldansen remix (yes, it was a remix of a much older song) is an enduring symbol of the core 2000s and everything youth culture in those days was about.
It was a sped up Europop song featuring cute anime characters dancing a DDR-sequel dance, very campy. On top of that, these are markers of a time when meme culture was prominent but not yet mainstream, as it would become in this decade. It doesn’t get more 2000s than that.

The Caramelldansen is actually a sped-up version of a 2001 Swedish Eurodance song with pitch shifted vocals, basically what we refer nowadays as 'Nightcore'.
Good stuff, I thought for the longest time that it actually was J-Pop ;D

And I could guarantee you that the thing I bolded will be the first thing John Titor sees when she replies to this thread.

Nightcore before nightcore. You should check out the nightcore remix of the sped-up Caramelldansen.
