I'm a guy in high school. It's still cool to comb your hair to the side, although full-on 2014 hipster undercuts are pretty frowned upon nowadays. Also it seems like parting your hair in the middle has made a comeback. I've done it a few times myself. There's this other hairstyle gaining popularity where guys will leave the top of their hair long and curly but have the sides shaved pretty short, idk what it's called though.
Just from what I've seen with girls I don't think much has changed within the past few years. Bangs made a comeback in 2017 but I think that trend might already be dead. If you're a girl you're probably just safe with neutral long hair.

No one seems to know, but possibly because youths with this style are, stereotypically, expected to hang out at McDonalds with their mates.
It is a hairstyle strongly discouraged at my son's school

I saw a guy who looked like he had regular long hair, but the sides underneath the temples were shaved under the hair. Almost like an undercut except the sides and front and back of his hair were shoulder length.

Undercuts are still very popular, but there's also the "meet me at mcdonald's" which gained popularity last year.

Lol I remember in 2016/2017 everyone saying the undercut was finished because of its ties to fascism, but it's more popular than ever in 2018. We are truly living in the era of TRUMP.
