Subject: January 1st, 2010
Written By: duenas8 on 05/25/18 at 2:40 am
We’re in the late 2010’s and the world has changed a lot since 2010 or even more our lives. So, how do you remember your life 8 years ago, specifically on New Year’s Eve 2010.

My memory of December 31, 2009 / January 1, 2010 is quite vivid actually. It was a high point in my life, where I was now halfway through my second year of college. I was relaxing in a hotel in London, watching The Big Fat Quiz Show of the Year with my brothers, also listening to my iPod (I still have the ol’ brick).
Anyway, I was sitting pretty. I had been dating my now-wife for about a month at that point, and that day I resolved that when we got back to school, I’d ask her to be my girlfriend.
It was an optimistic time before I chose my major and basically locked myself into law school. If only I’d known then.
Good times.

It took you 10 years to get half way through your first year of college. :o
:D ;)

I don't remember New Years Eve of 2010, but I do remember coming back to school after winter break and my whole class was arguing if the year was pronounced as "two-thousand and ten" or "twenty ten." ;D

I remember being at my cousin's house that day, I was like "Oh wow I can't believe we're in a new decade."

I felt excited that felt we entered a brand new decade. I'm hoping it will be the same with 2020, but with the awful atmosphere that's happening, I'm not too sure.

Had a romantic steak dinner with my then-boyfriend and then rang in the New Year at Closet Nightclub in Charlotte NC. Then the next day we went to see Avatar.

It honestly feels like yesterday. I went to another town in the rockies to ring in the new decade. It feels very recent and I can't believe it's 8 years ago now.
Back then, it actually didn't matter that much to me that we were entering another decade as I only got interested in this "decadology" stuff (for the lack of a better term ;)) in 2011. But I do remember everyone saying they were happy they were leaving the 2000s and called it "The decade from hell" and I remember news reporters going over "the best and worst of the 2000s" segments which was fun to watch. And reporters were actually saying 2010 like "twenty ten" and I found that pretty cool.

I was 14 years old, staying at my aunt/uncles farmhouse. I remember watching the time tick over to 12AM on my ipod nano. Its a really distant dated memory now. Funnily enough the fact that it was the 2010's decade only hit me at the start of 2011.

Ahh, 2010, the last of the "good old" years :-[
I was 20 years old, I'd started my first ever job in september 2009, which was only part time 7 hours per week, but was new and exciting.
I then completed community college in July, where I had been for the past 2 1/2 years since I was 17 (I was a year behind because I took a gap year after school) and I also had my first car back then which was a major interest (because I couldn't pickup chicks so I buried myself in my car hobby).
In the September I started uni studying computer science which I would learn that I hated and did not end up pursuing a career in anyway.
2010 is the last "classic" year of my youth.
2011-now was horrible.
I wish I did some day gaming back then when I was in the "right" age group for picking up chicks and around chicks more likely to be single.
So yeah, 2006-2010=golden years for me.

I was in Tokyo. At the exact moment when the clock struck midnight to begin 1/1/2010 I was at Tokyo Tower 🗼 where they lit up the tower (after it went dark for about the final minute) and had "2010" display on the windows of the lower observation deck. Afterwards I returned to my favorite bar in Roppongi where they had a big party, and they were handing out shots of sake. Around that time it was common to hear "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas, which really set the mood for the nights because they usually were good nights.

I don't remember much of 2010 although emo started becoming slightly relevant until like 2013 for me. The music did start sounding less bearable for me though, and not just because "it wasn't rock music", which would have been the excuse I would have given for hating the past decade.
I could remember that some guy from Norway won Eurovision in 2009 and the girls were all madly in love with him.

I was 12 and I remember I just got back from my first ever visit to Arizona. It was memorable. New Year's Eve is a little hazy in memory but we probably capped the night with a feast. The next day we opened up presents and that part I can remember so well.

So far no photos, it is looking like my family was abroad, and I was alone, now if I can locate a diary of that time.
