It was pretty good. On a scale of 1-10, I would say about an 8 or so.

0/10. Worst summer of my life. I'd rather go back to 2014 than 2016 any day of the week, despite both years not being good in terms of my personal life.

My personal life in 2016 was way better than 2015, but overall the culture throughout that year (and summer) was an F.

I'd rather go back to Summer '16 than Summer 2017 because the summer of 2017 was boring and bland nothing really happpened in terms of my personal life that summer all i did was be in my room all day. Same thing happened for Summer of 2016 but atleast the Summer of 2016 was better.

I had a great summer that year, plus summer songs were nice and catchy (Cheap Thrills, Cake by the Ocean, My House, ...). I had lots of fun :D

Give me examples. Gaming throughout 2017 was the best in years with the Nintendo Switch and PS4 Pro. Sports were epic throughout this year (outside of my Falcons having a historical Super Bowl collapse but it was still entertaining) which included Golden State vs. Cleveland III being a historical NBA finals. Even though this was the first year Trump was president, that horrible 2016 election was over and we've moved on. Music in 2017 was definitely better than 2016 (which was the 2nd worst this decade behind 2012), just look at the billboard charts. 2017 movies were a huge improvement from 2016 IMO with Get Out, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Wonder Woman, Logan, The Florida Project, Dunkirk, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. 2016 movies were good but that year had TOO many reboots.

For this 2010's decade I would agree, but in the 2000's I would say the even numbered years were better (except for 2005 and 2007 being better than 2006). What's funny is that throughout my life the even numbered years seem to be better for my personal life but the odd numbered years seem to be better pop culturally. I loved 2012 for my personal life, hated 2013 so much, but unfortunately the pop culture in 2013 was a lot better than 2012 without a doubt. 2014 is probably the best even numbered year pop culturally of this decade so far. So far 2018 has been alright.

It's the exact opposite for me. 2014 and 2016 were easily the two worst years of my life, but 2013, 2015, and 2017 were the absolute best years of my life.

Movies have been great so far and it's only going to get better (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, Deadpool 2, Ready Player One, Venom, A Quiet Place, Incredibles 2, Pacific Rim Uprising, etc.) Drake and Cardi B have made 2018 music interesting so far but we need to see what happens as the year goes on. The Eagles winning their first Super Bowl against the Patriots was great (even tho I'm not a fan). My Georgia Bulldogs winning the Rose Bowl was great but blowing it against Alabama in the national championship sucked. This year's NBA playoffs is the most interesting in years with a competitive Eastern Conference and the Houston Rockets being 1st in the west instead of Golden State. We have the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers who are the dark horse, and if LeBron and his weak Cavs team doesn't close out game 7 against the Pacers it'll be the first time since 2006 there's no Kobe or LeBron in a Finals. It'll also snap LeBron's 7 game win streak of NBA Finals appearances.

You have to give someone valid points and factual information to support your opinion. If not, then how is anyone on here supposed to understand why you believe 2016 was better culturally than 2017? I've already given my side of why I believe 2017 crushes 2016.

I say 2012 was the worst year for music of this decade. I believe 2012 is overrated actually. It's a watered down terrible version of 2010 and 2011. I'm not a big fan of 2013 either, but 2013 had Suit & Tie by Justin Timberlake ft. Jay Z. Katy Perry's PRISM album which had her last great songs IMO, Eninem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 which had excellent songs, and Drake's Nothing Was the Same which is my favorite album from him. 2014 had that "Happy" song which I can understand why is annoying, but it also had Dark Horse from Katy Perry, Fancy from Iggy Azalea (catchy), The Monster from Eminem, Turn Down for What from DJ Snake, and Uptown Funk (released in 2014). I'm not even including a lot more good songs throughout that year. That's a much better list than the top songs from 2012 and 2016 combined.

2012 had "Call Me Maybe" and "Gangnam Style" easily the two most annoying songs of that year. At a party I attended 9 days ago, they played "Call Me Maybe" and I temporarily wished I was deaf when they played that. I never liked that song when it first came out and I still don't.

2014 was freaking atrocious for hit music, I prefer going deaf than ever hear all those horrid Jason Derulo singles or Meghan Trainor as a whole again.
Of course in that sea of poop there was some gems getting into 2015 territory of goodness like Prayer in C and Love Me Harder so hope for improvement was still possible :D.

When I think of my senior year, I think of 2014, but a lot of hit songs from my senior year carried on from late 2013 into early 2014, that's probably why I believe 2014 was good while I'm forgetting about the 2nd half of the year. I forgot to bring up Wiz Khalifa "We Dem Boyz" and Drake "N***a We Made It". Those were extremely catchy party songs and those were from 2014.

It's funny because on this board a couple years ago everybody was saying 2012 was the worst year for music, and while I didn't agree completely at first, the more years that go by, the more I start to agree even more. All the excuses people had for 2012, and the top for billboard 2012 was the lamest IMO. 2016 isn't any better than 2014 TBH if you look deep into it.

IMO 2011 was the best year for music in the 2010's so far. Beautiful People by Chris Brown, Party Rock Anthem, Lights by Ellie Goulding, Give Me Everything by Pitbull, Rumour Has It by Adele, On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez, and a lot more good songs that came out that year,

I came to the conclusion 2012 was indeed fairly weak hits-wise, but it had some stuff I could stomach for the most part, and it had some extremely great stand-outs (Somebody that I Used to Know, Skyfall, ...).
Also Call Me Maybe is a sugary pop perfection, you goddamn haters of fun.
Also releases-wise, 2012 was fukcing amazing
So I like 2012 :)

I agree, 2014 is quite easily my least favourite year of the decade for music, songs like "Rude", "All about that Bass" and "Shake it off" were truly awful, but only the next year would bring so many good songs which is why 2015 would be my favourite year for music this decade. Bascially I mean that I prefer the 2015-2017 music era over 2012-2014.

2010 still beats all those years lol. I can't call an era of music with a lot of trap (and mumble rappers) better than 2010 now that's for sure. 2015 music was pretty good but it didn't get really good until the Fall IMO with songs like Drake "Hot Line Bling" and Demi Lovato "Confident", but hey it still counts though. 2016 was mediocre to bad, I don't care what anybody says.

Oddly, I don't remember summer 2016 at all. At least not right now. It seems as if my memories of that year is from experiencing university as a guess, which was exciting to where I didn't understand. I even felt left out in the process.
Personally, I'll definitely always think of Problems by Chance The Rapper as the theme of that year.

I like the cheesiness and upbeat-vibe of 2010 music which had this role of bringing back smiles and hope to people saddened by the recession, but most of the songs don't fare well on their own right. Especially 8 years after the fact, they're really starting to show their age.
They really should be looked as "pieces" contributing to a context, rather than separate entities.
For 2016, having your Dancehall tolerance high was a necessity, otherwise you wouldn't really survive through all the hit songs that were influenced by it (Work, One Dance, Cheap Thrills). I agree that overall musically the year was kind of dull and unmemorable. The airy and dreamy vibe of 2015 majorly took off and producers tried to mix it with the new popular genres breaking in, amounting to sometimes a big mess (Cold Water, Gold, Let Me Love You, ...).
I also associate that year with annoying twenty øne piløts fanbøys which happens to be very unfortunate.

It was dark and depressing. One tragic news event after another and bad news about someone in my family having terminal cancer to top things off. The Olympics in Rio were disappointing. I did enjoy my trip to Japan, some of the movies, and Wii U games but that was about it. Pokemon Go was everyones escape from reality, until some people got shot playing that because they were on someone's front yard.
that summer was so humid
The AC went out in my house, and I was living in Florida. It was right before my 2 week trip to Japan, but luckily I had it arranged to get repaired the day after we returned.

Technically this entire site is decadeology, since it is the analysis of decades past and present. But yeah, it's pretty annoying. It was pretty quiet for awhile compared to 10-ish years ago (maybe it's decadeology to say that, lol), back when some members were constantly comparing one random year to another. Of course I can't say too much since I have my 16 year parallel theory. But more recently it seems the decadeology flags have been flying a lot recently.
