I think I might have interacted with the attacker before (through email, not in person). Even if we didn't, we've been in the same places (live in the same suburb (Richmond Hill), went to the same university (I think?), both computer programmers, the same age as me), and this is all so confusing. It feels like I'm dreaming and none of this is real.

The attack took place just 2 blocks (4 km), just two subway stops away from my office. On special occasions, me and my coworkers lunch in the neighbourhood where the attack took place, exactly at the afternoon lunch hour that it did. Fortunately I chose to work from home today as I had some local errands to run, but that's not important.

I received so many calls asking if I was okay, and I just couldn't hold back anymore. I shed a few tears, it was so overwhelming.  :\'( I never thought I'd live the day where I'd see Facebook alerts asking me to call to check on friends of mine to confirm they're safe in my own city.

What I'm absolutely disgusted by is all the posts on social media. Everyone is hijacking the deaths of those people and using them from their own agenda. Whether it's American gun nut jobs making jokes about regulating trucks, people who posted fake news about his being an Islamist or him being a white nationalist, you're all disgusting.  8-P There are PEOPLE who died. Those are PEOPLE who got injured and will live a life of suffering because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. NOT your political props.

It's looking likely that the attacker was a person with mental health issues and girl problems, who was attempting suicide by cop. And now all those people with their faux-concern trolling are nowhere to be seen. Disgusting how they were only concerned in so much as it furthered their political agenda. Disgusting excuses for human beings  8-P

We just came out of the harshest winter in my living memory. It was a warm sunny spring day, and if you know Canadians we go outside on warm days any chance we get, because we don't get many of them. The snow is STILL on the ground. It was lunchtime in an area with some of the best restaurants in the city surrounded by office towers and 3 subway stations. It must have been packed. I could've easily been there. And all those people were mowed down. All those people were injured and their lives completely change within an instant, simply because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. It's all too much to comprehend for me, how this can just happen to anybody, including you, and you're powerless to stop it.  :\'(

I hope I don't see familiar names on there, but even if I don't my heart breaks for those that do. Something about this attack feels so real and raw, in a way the others didn't. Even though I have seen names of some of the victims and don't know them, I feel like I actually do. I know that neighbourhood so well. I know the people of Toronto so well. It's like losing someone I know even though I didn't.  :\'( What's gross is I feel like I know the attacker well too, even though I don't. We've been to all the same places and had similar life experiences. Everything about this attack is just f*cking with my brain and the range of emotions is all over the map, I don't know what to feel.  :-[

I guess technically even if I'm not losing people I know, I am losing people I really care about, and that's what makes this attack hit so close to home (literally)  :-\\

Another mindf*ck is Bruce McArthur. He lived in the SAME apartment as one of my close friends, and I used to go there all the time. The exact same one! I was probably in the same elevator with him God knows how many times. And he used to kill primarily people like me (South Asian gay men). Also the obvious conclusion that if we did ban trucks then truck attacks would virtually all stop. They didn't think of something so obvious because they don't think much past dumb memes.  Of course we don't do that because trucks have other functional uses, unlike guns. He's not. He's an MRA/misogynist pretending to be a woman to make his horsecrap seem legit. He posted a lot of other MRA propaganda threads about "women plotting to accuse Bernie Sanders of rape", "Biased controversial feminist movie hitting theatres" and God knows what else, I've lost track.
