Definitely 2014. I remember when I was 12-years old back then and I always used to use the "Confused Black Girl" meme while texting. I also really liked the Nick Young meme of him looking confused. ;D ;D

Memes have always existed. They used to be called 'image macros'. I think somewhere in 2008/2009 people started calling them 'memes'.

2015 was the ultimate year of memes this decade. It was jam-packed full of them and some of them were actually good.

Memes have always existed. They used to be called 'image macros'. I think somewhere in 2008/2009 people started calling them 'memes'.
I probably saw images on the internet that could be called memes before 2012 but I don't really recall people calling them memes before then

The trollface of the early 2010s was kind of fun if not a little on the obnoxious side. I remembering being obsessed with 9GAG back in 2013 and laughing a lot so I will go with that :)

2016 was absolutely insane. To quote the great philosopher Alex Jones, "I don't know how, but...we've now reached the zeitgeist of memes."
After everything happened in 2016...there is no going back. 2017 was also pretty good though. :)
