Subject: Young people are less interested on watching sports

Written By: duenas8 on 04/03/18 at 8:32 pm

In the last years, NFL and MLB are losing historical TV ratings, overall among young audience and even Winter Olympics seemed far less popular this year. The principal suspect about it are Esports and diversity of content on Internet, which in the early 2010’s grew up a big community around Gen Zers fans.
Is this just a short crisis in the industry or traditional sports are slowly heading towards to its end?

No, this isn't true at all.

What studies or statistics do you have to back up this claim? ???

Personally, I don't believe everything I read on the Internet. The title IMO is far from the truth, as I have guy friends around my age (mainly 15-17-year-olds) who are sports obsessed and will always say something sports related if they're talking about TV.

I've always been part of the demographic then that's shifting away from sports. I never cared too much about it.  :o

That's very anecdotal. Looks like OP is citing actual statistics.

NFL declined because of Kaepernick, Winter Olympics because no NHL players to play ice hockey, and IDK about MLB.

You're exactly correct.

Also, the MLB has been declining in ratings since the early 2000s (technically, early '90s) because a lot of younger people (30 and under) find baseball to be boring.

....but other sports are doing just fine among younger people

Trump has nothing to do with young people being less interested on watching sports.

To watch live sports on television has to be paid for, except The Olympics, and major sporting events.

The school playing fields are being taken away for housing, and children no longer get to try out all forms of sports.

Youth clubs now longer exist, making it that there is no chance for inspiration to life.

On a rare opportunity, a better class school, does produce future sportpersons.

This is somewhat true because I haven't found a lot of younger people who would talk about baseball on a frequent basis. Unlike my dad, who was born in the late 50s and remembers the Mets winning the 1969 World Series when he was 11.

I am not sure on that, but football here is well attended for Premier matches, even when the tickets are very expensive. Gradually, as the years have got on, and I have noticed these, attendances are County Crickets matches is dwindling away, with the One Day Matches holding the popularity.

Personally, I think our society puts too much emphasis on sports. On average, NBA players make $5.15 million, MLB players make $3.2 million, NHL players make $2.4 million, and NFL players make $1.9 million per year, according to Forbes. But, the average teacher makes about $55,000 a year. Which job is more important?

It has to do with supply and demand....and advertising....and government funding (or lack thereof).

You might want to get advice from your family doctor first, but strength training can relieve back pain. Usually back pain is a result of weak abdominal muscles. But your doctor might know more.  :-X

Hahaha yeah, this thread is a complete joke. If anything, sports has become more popular over the years. The NBA has grown the most followed by college football/NFL throughout this current decade, but American football still remains the biggest sport across the nation. I would say that outside of the controversial national anthem protests (which are very opinionated, I don't care if you stand up or sit down), sports are still very popular and are still growing.

This is correct too. The Braves were so popular in Atlanta back in the 90's (which included 4 World Series appearances and a win in 1995), but since then we haven't done much. MLB definitely caters more to an older audience. FOX used to have their own theme for MLB from 1996 through the 00's which was very catchy and got you hyped for baseball, but now they just use the NFL on FOX theme for everything. The Braves are my least passionate team out of all Georgia/Atlanta sports. I'm very passionate about the Bulldogs, Falcons, Hawks, and hell I'm even more passionate about our new Atlanta United soccer team and I'm not into soccer.
