Not surprising at all. I expected this from the start. It's just a different time now.
2018 is not 1998. Also, you're very rarely going to get lightning in a bottle twice.

Desperation.

What was the point in bringing it back?
A combination of late '90s/early '00s nostalgia and them trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice.
They were doomed from the beginning.

I wondered this myself.
Ironic thing is, music videos are probably more relevant now than ever. It's just MTV isn't the source for them anymore.

THIS!
That was the main reason why the revived TRL failed.

They are? Definitely doesn't seem that way to me.

I said this from the beginning. I said right here that the TRL reboot would quickly pass like a vague irritation. If I recall, there were people here excitedly speculating that it might be a whole new era for this type of thing, as if that could ever happen. It was doomed from the very start.

Or American Idol again, though it wasn't cancelled very long, more like it just skipped one or two seasons. Usually resurrecting an old show doesn't work, even Beavis and Butthead in 2011, or Arsenio Hall in 2012. Rosanne is coming back. We'll see how long that lasts.

Totally true. Yet for some reason people continue to overestimate the long-term viability of a nostalgia fad eg. a pop punk revival.

I am always surprised when people here speculate that this is the time, or a certain point in the coming future is the right time for a certain thing or style to "come back", as if that simply happens as a matter of course. History has proven that once something passes from the mainstream that's it. It doesn't "come back". Ever. Oh, there may be brief fads, but once something is gone it never comes back into the mainstream as common usage again. The current, overhyped vinyl resurgence for example. I have collected vinyl since the 60s and nobody loves albums as much as me, but this little spasm of a resurgence it's having among hipsters does not mean it will come back into he mainstream and be the "regular thing" the way it was in the 60s and 70s. If things simply "came back" we'd all be using iceboxes and horses and buggies again. Or typewriters or public pay phones.

Why not?
Now more than ever, people have the option to simply listen to music online or watch the music video. I usually just listen to an audio/lyric video. I don't really bother to go out of my way to search for music videos unless it's an artist I really like. Before the dominance of streaming, music videos were important because that was one of the only ways to listen to the songs you liked.

I know of all that already. I said "Why not?" because you disagreed with the point that music videos are more popular than they have ever been.
....Why not?

Not true. I watch it if I get up early enough.
Pathetic job, TMZ. I could've told you that TRL was on spring break and would return April 9. On March 4, I searched the official TRL Twitter and related, just to be sure it wasn't cancelled. Very poor research, Harvey. Go back to The People's Court.
TRL Is Not Only Returning, It’s Expanding
Update: After an initial report that MTV was shuttering its relaunch of TRL, network president Chris McCarthy told The Hollywood Reporter that not only is it coming back, they’re going to grow the brand. “It’s thriving. We’re expanding the franchise and will have three TRLs by summer,” McCarthy explained to THR. “TRL has delivered incredible growth on linear and we’ve experienced two to three times the growth in our video streams and TRL is big piece of it — and that’s why we’re expanding it; we want more.”
Specifically, that means TRL will have have morning and late-night versions added to the network’s daily lineup, so that means a triple dose of Total programming. MTV has been airing Total Request Late-Night two nights a week since February 19, with plans to make it four nights a week by summer. Also coming will be Total Request A.M., which McCarthy describes as a commercial-free block of “pure music play.” That program will have a yet-to-be-named host walking viewers through a Request-style countdown, as well as performances.
The traditional TRL afternoon show will return as planned on April 9, and McCarthy enthusiastically reiterated that you’ll never not have the show on MTV. “We have no plans of not having TRL on our linear network,” he said. “There won’t be a time when we don’t have it on. The show has been killing it for us.”

Trl could work but it's just that they have sheeshty management. They should've implememted some sort of voting system for fans to vote on an app for their favourite artists.

I think you're thinking of Full House.
Fuller House is the new series on Netflix which is being panned critically.

I was referring to Fuller House, even though they had a few seasons I think they should continue with a couple more seasons.
