Subject: Have you noticed that modern MP3s are much louder?

It seems like roughly around 2012-13 or so, MP3s became much louder. I used to pirate a lot more but it isn't just that as legit, purchased MP3s are the same volume. When I listen to MP3s from the late '00s or even 2010 or 2011, the default volume is very noticeably quieter. Has anybody else noticed this?

Or maybe it's the devices, the phones, players, earbuds and such?

I noticed the quality got louder around 2011. That's one reason I started purchasing mp3s more.

It's not. I can play the two songs, one from 2010 and one from 2017 on the same iPhone using the same earbuds and the volume will be significantly louder on the 2017 one.
