I remember the summer of 2011 like yesterday. The fashion is noticeably different. I’ve noticed side bangs were popular on girls then, which is something I hardly see nowadays.

I agree. I never thought how dated 2011 was until I looked at these pictures. Some of these photos look like they could have been taken in like 2009.

I think because many of us have never seen photos of 2011 since, that is why it looks so dated looking back now.

2011 feels like yesterday to me and those pictures don't look dated at all to me. I hated 2011 and the only worse year than it this decade was 2012. It was awful.  8-P The photo of Nikki Minaj Super Bass and Britney Spears' I Wanna Go prove how horrible the music was in 2011 too.

It was actually pretty conservative back then.
Don't let the vocal minority fool you.
In fact, I'd wager to say that the 2009-2014 era was more conservative than any era in history.
Do you know how I know? All the young whites were gung-ho over Mitt Romney. You don't get much more (socially) conservative than Romney, Ryan and Santorum.

In May 2011 we had an election in Canada. I was 18 and it was my first time voting. I voted NDP (left-wing social democrats) and so did a lot of people my age, and we broke the two-party system. It was a youthquake! :D

How is it false?
Are you denying that a substantial amount of young white Millennials voted for Romney? Not just substantial, but SIGNIFICANT.
Alright, so white Millennials were in all for Obama in '08. 4 long years later, the tides changed.
I'm not even trolling, I wish I was.

This article is from 2012.
It shows that young Americans were far less enthusiastic of Obama in 2012, than they were of him in 2008.
49 to 41% for Obama (this is including minorities) in 2012, vs 66% to 32% in 2008.
I'd say that the white population shifted way to the right between 2008 and 2012. This new resurgence of socially conservative, but ironically sexually liberated (this time), youth did not come out of nowhere. It was a steady, but gradual, process that's been going on for many years (if not a few decades) by now.

Party affiliation doesn't tell you much. California went hard for Obama in 2008, but they supported Prop-8 in a referendum and gay marriage was banned the same day. If you poll for social attitudes, then 2011 was very progressive for its time, the most progressive year there ever was. 2017 is more progressive than 2011, yes, but you can say that for any 6 year gap. It gets more socially progressive as time goes on, that's been true since the 1950s.

Exactly.

Also, how in the world can someone say that 2009-2014 was arguably "more conservative than any era in history"? Like...what? That's not even close to being true.

Britney Spears was irrelevant by 2011, so I don't know how a photo of a Britney Spears album cover could truly represent 2011...

Also, Windows 7 had become the de-facto operating system by that point. A photo of a computer with Windows 7 would have been much more representative than a photo of a computer that looks like it could be from 2007.

OR, OR, maybe...just maybe...they might have a point?

Naahh. You got all the answers. Carry on.

I never said I had all the answers? All the answers to what?

You're the one that brought politics into the situation when we were talking about fashion.

You're just upset that not everyone in America is dressed like a farmer or lumberjack http://www.thecoli.com/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/skip1.png.

I'm pretty calm down. Just think of when you say things calmly, nonchalantly and someone interprets it as someone going ballistic. That's you right now.
I was just explaining myself and pointing out that going UPPERCASE and passive aggressive statements like "Let me tell you", which by way the aren't very calm and nonchalant, are unneeded reactions when you're trying to point out something wrong with my post ;).

I didn't like summer of 2011. It wasn't as bad as 2012 which was the year I went into the deep end but 2011 was still a sucky year. I  was 16 years old and I remember I was mainly working that summer and I went on a trip to my hometown for a couple of days. Lady Gaga was still extremely popular that year and I remember there was some long program on TV about her career and what not. Everything was flashy and colourful and music was very fast. That summer was when Blockbuster closed down in my area too. I distinctly remember 3D TVs being like "the latest thing" and very trendy that summer. But now we know it didn't take off after that year. It was also the last summer before I got a smartphone and I still used my Samsung Intensity dumb phone in summer of 2011.
