Subject: Early 2010s fashion trends you no longer see?

Written By: christopher on 12/09/17 at 7:35 pm

As usual I was following cars, tech and music more back then to take note of what people wear. What trends do you think were defining in 2010-2013 you rarely see now? I know that I didn't see so many women and girls having crazy colored hair like blue, purple, etc. at least where I lived.
For men in 2011-2013 most people I knew had a shaggy cut like:
http://hairstylesweekly.com/images/2012/08/Cool-Mens-Hairstyles-2013.jpg
Of course in my part of Europe, the buzz cut was and still is very popular.

But apparently where I live now this cow-licked style is popular 8-P Literally 90% of guys have it and I hate it:

Is it the same in your area, or is this a local, Central European phenomenon? Back home in Eastern Europe it's more rare. What other early 2010s fashion trends you no longer see? Especially when it comes to clothes?

Let's hope that those cut-out shoulders on womens' clothing have run their course.

Hipsters

I grew a beard this year and have the hair in the OP. It's still going strong ;D

On women, I no longer see these cheap Uggs that were so common in 2010-2014. I saw less of them in 2015/2016, don't think I've seen any at all in 2017.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e5/Uggs2.jpg/235px-Uggs2.jpg

An obvious one: no more Aeropostale/American Eagle/logo hoodies. I actually still wear my hoodies every now and then but they're extinct from 5 years ago when every other person under 30 was wearing one. Their sales peaked in 2010. You still see people wearing their old logo shirts pretty often, but since Aeropostale went bankrupt I think those aren't long for the world.

http://www.aeropostale.com/dw/image/v2/BBSG_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-catalog-aeropostale/default/dwfb9190f2/60231156_001_main.jpg?sw=460&sh=535&sm=fit&sfrm=jpg

And v-necks. They were the sh*t circa 2009-2012, only to be replaced by tank tops in manly slutwear ;D

http://shop.on-us.net/cms/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ad177-basic-v-neck-t-shirt.jpg-01f.jpg

Also, I don't know if I haven't been paying attention, but I almost never see jacket vests anymore. I got one in 2011 and thought I looked pretty badass. I haven't worn it since 2015 though, I think just having a fall coat is more fashionable now, that might my age difference speaking though.

And finally, those high top shoes. The really glossy and colourful ones. I couldn't find a generic picture, but here is Kanye West from 2010, hopefully you guys get what I'm saying. I still wear shoes like these, but that's when I'm feeling adventurous ;D

I think women still wear jeggings, but they weren't as colourful as the ones in the early '10s (2009-2013ish). Nowadays I think most people get them in denim-looking colours.

I own some tops like that and they look nice! Cut outs in pant legs and every kind of crop top including cropped sweaters is too much.

Those bright colors were blindingly hideous! I'm glad to see them go. Plain shades of blue or black jeans is timeless and looks good on everyone. The skinny jeans that come in color now are earth tones like greens, browns, etc. or pastel pinks and burgundies.

Hipsters, in fact, do seem like they are gone now.

^Too late, the hipster cow-licked hairstyle (photo 2 in my OP) is everywhere! Most people look terribly funny with it, like trying too hard.

I thought hipsters didn't like mainstream stuff? That hairstyle is about as mainstream as it gets.

They were probably meant  to be ironic or for the lulz really.

Bright Neon coloured sun glasses is one thing I'll always remember from the early 2010's. Neon was used a lot. I remember trainer shoes with neon yellow laces and soles!

Written By: christopher on 12/11/17 at 11:16 am

Hm this neon trend seems to have surpassed my heck of the woods in Europe. I've never seen anyone wearing those glasses in real life, only on TV. I don't remember anything like that, except for music videos of course. In my country only some celebrities took on this trend, but not ordinary people, although other hipster trends took on with ordinary folk. One trend I do remember is more floral print retro dresses during the summers of 2012 and 2014, perhaps influenced by Lana Del Rey. ;)

Hoodies in general seem to have become rare, but maybe it's my age. I don't remember so many colored jeans like red before 2014, I first saw them in Holland and then even in my home country from 2015.

Lmao my hair is styled like that. I used to call it "Brendon Urie" hair because since Vices and Virtues or thereabouts that's been his hairstyle.

I've never IRL seen anyone wear those glasses either. Most ordinary people don't copy the weird celebrity trends anyway. Like those harem pants, I never saw those on anyone.

In 2013 and 2014, beach tank tops were all the rage for guys.  The past two summers I haven't seen very many of them.

I actually saw more of these in 2016/2017. This past summer, a muscular dude on the bus wore it so loose, you could see his nipples from the side. He fell asleep on the bus too. Ehem... nature is beautiful.  :-X

I don't see them as much over here in the UK. Then again, it's cold.

I live in a place where lots of people are in relationships, but I feel like that only gay guys and fascists appreciate guys these days, and the latter want guys to fit a very specific mold that I won't be fine with.

Also, I'm thinking of wearing those tops more often, just to make women envious as to how they can't free the nipple.

Obviously I don't see them in the winter. It's -18C (0F) windchill outside ;D

Yeah, same. I started lifting two months ago. I can't wait till the summer. Are you going to wear the slightly see-through ones? ;D

Long live the emo/scene days. This is very peak 2000s culture here and it's surprising to say that we haven't seen fashion like this since in over a decade now.

It's sometimes funny where you'd watch a cartoon or sitcom where there is a goth/emo/scene person in it. Usually it's just a funny little thing that you'd see on TV, but a decade ago that kind of look was something you'd see a lot in real life.  :o Now imagine the fact that we have kids and teens who don't even know what the emo/scene trend was like.

I don't think I look attractive enough for sleeveless tops though, but I'm just wearing them quite often when I'm out. I don't think I'm gonna wear the slightly see-through ones, although I might wear a rather low slung one (which you can find in basically most shops that sell clothes these days - low-slung tank tops are rather in these days).

Quite sad really, but at least they could see it as something that is cool.

Yeah, nowadays they tend to be low-slung. You don't see it in the style Chris posted in nowadays, it looks more like this. It hangs loose and also the sides are more exposed.

Emo (the style) is actually really popular among kids, and I don't know why. My sister (12 years old) says there are a few kids in her class who dress emo, but she also uses emo as a pejorative (as in "stop being emo").
