Disney has picked Chinese actor Liu Yifei to play Mulan in an upcoming film, following accusations against Hollywood of 'whitewashing'. The live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated movie will tell the tale of the famed Chinese heroine Hua Mulan. Several Hollywood films have faced criticism in recent months for featuring white actors in Asian roles. Thousands took part in an online campaign calling for an Asian actress to be cast as Mulan. Recent films accused of whitewashing include the Hollywood remake of Japanese anime Ghost in the Shell, which had Scarlett Johansson in the main role which was originally Japanese, and Chinese epic The Great Wall which starred Matt Damon as its lead character.

Well, technically, Mulan is a bit of a stereotypical role.

There needs to be more Asian characters that don't have much or any basis in an ancient Asian country or ritual. Have Asian people in normal roles like Fresh Off the Boat....because Asian people are like every one else. Not every Asian person is an ancient warrior or princess ;D.

Imagine there were people (grey race/people) who wouldn't cast a purple skinned person (made up race), but will cast their own race, yet will presume and assume that the purple person won't make enough money because of the person's skin color/race, yet won't even give the purple person/people a chance.

No. Ignorance and arrogance aren't the same thing. Yes, sometimes they can interlap but Whitewashing in Hollywood is mostly due to ignorance NOT arrogrance. Asian actors are being IGNORed....thus it's IGNORance...get it? :)

It's arrogance because they think that they (white people) are better than others, so they cast a white person instead of a POC. It's also ignorance because they aren't aware that there are POC that can portray the characters amazingly...get it? :)

No, that is false but if you feel that is how it is then....whatever. Whitewashing is obviously about being ignorant towards others NOT arrogant.
