Subject: The big changes and events slated for 2019/2020

Written By: 2001 on 11/24/17 at 12:02 am

Instead of predictions, I wanted to see a thread where we could list all the changes or events that are certain or at least quasi-certain to happen and that would usher in the new decade. Let's just get it all on the table!

I'll start.

1. The new Congress will be sworn in in January 2019.
2. Britain will leave the EU in March 2019.
3. Game of Thrones will air its finale in the spring or summer of 2019.
4. The PlayStation 5 and/or the Xbox Two are likely to release sometime in 2019. If I had to guess, they will bet heavy on VR.
5. The Democratic primary will be underway in the summer of 2019.
6. Toy Story 4 is slated to come out in the summer of 2019.
7. Super Tuesday will happen in February 2020.
8. Google's self-driving technology is slated for release in 2020.
9. The Tesla Semi and Tesla Roadster will be driving on the roads in 2020.
10. The winner of the Democratic primary will be announced in the summer of 2020.
11. The 2020 US presidential election will take place in November 2020.

That's what I can think of at the moment. What other changes or events do you know are coming?

The 2020s will begin on January 1, 2020  ;D
All jokes aside, here is what are highly likely to happen

1. 2018 FIFA World Cup(June 14-July 15,2018)
2. 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo(July 24-August 9, 2020)
3. 2018 Winter Olympics PyeongChang(Feb 9-25, 2018)
4. Star Wars 3(December 2019)
5. Avatar 2 release date to be delayed again(trust me they've done it so many times)

Maybe a small recession, or stock market correction (like only 10%) will happen in 2020.

Many economists believe that we're due for a mild to moderate recession sometime from late 2018 to early 2021.

I should probably include 2018 :o

Good list. Italy didn't make it to the 2018 World Cup, so the games won't be as festive as the previous ones here in Toronto. And the NHL isn't allowing its player to play in the 2018 Winter Olympics, which means Canada's hockey team will be a bit gimped.  :\'( The 2014 nostalgia will be high that year ;D

I can't wait for Star Wars 3 :D

Hmm, that isn't keeping with the thread idea (things that are -certain- to happen), but a recession usually does happen once every 8-12 years or so, so it is possible.

Oh, you're right.  :) You know I don't always read the whole writing, right?

A lot of Democratic politicians are being floated as possible candidates, but it's hard to say who would be a potential frontrunner this far out. Additionally, don't discount the notion of a prominent Republican trying to challenge Trump in the primaries, if he remains as unpopular as he is now. It might not go very far, but think Carter and Ted Kennedy in 1980, or something along those lines.

No, it's Star Wars episode 9... That's out in December 2019, and I am pumped.

Only he didn't predict any of it, as it's not a predictions thread, he just shared what was already confirmed and slated to come out...

It still amazes me how we all thought something like the 2020 Olympics was actually going to happen in 2020, only to have it being postponed to 2021 because of a pandemic. Nobody would have ever predicted that.

Yeah I remember I predicted a world flu pandemic for the year 2018. I was two years off lol. But I figured if it didn't happen then it will never happen. I was caught by surprise this year I think most of us were. Though I heard of the pandemic back in December in China, I did not think it would actually have a big impact here like some said it would.

Would you have any predictions slated for 2021/22?
