Subject: Anyone else excited for the 2020s?

Written By: Shemp97 on 09/20/17 at 2:24 pm

In 2 years, 3 months. We will officially be liberated from the dark decade. A new culture still gradually start to emerge, new sounds in music, new TV shows, hopefully the decline of Hipsterism, death of triplet-flow trap(replaced by UK grime/Caribbean dancehall influence), death of Calarts styled cartoons and rebirth of '00s style action cartoons, SJW and outrage culture fatigue, censorship fatigue, return of platformers and adventure games over shooters, '00s nostalgia, death of skinny jeans and return of straight jeans.
Many of these, we are already seeing now and seem to be slowly growing in popularity.
Man even the year numbers are remicicent of the' 00s for some strange reason.  :D

I wonder when the 2020s board will go up?

Not yet.  We need to get through 2018 and 2019 first.  A lot can happen between now and then.

We have a little more than two years left in the '10s and they could be very solid years or they could be a disaster, we'll see.  I can see it going either way in my personal life.

Yes, but with reservations.
2010s culture is not for everyone. It certainly isn't for me. Hipsterism was a fascinating new trend initially, but it got old quick.
Trap and pop-EDM outstayed their welcome.

I`m super exited to spend my 20s in the 2020s.
Hopefully i`ll succeed in life & do alot of acting in movies and selling albums as a musican. I want to show the next generation how it`s done. Hope i`ll be in New York for the 31st of December, 2019 to watch the ball drop for the year 2020. That would be an amazing life experience! 8)

I'm taking it slow. Sure the '20s may be good, but it is important to embrace the present and live life in the moment otherwise you may regret it later on. Trust me, 10 years from now many people will be wishing to return to 2017. It always happens and it's a cycle. The memories of the 2000s being "the most horrible, darkest, and awful decade" are still clear as day to me like people have been saying this yesterday. And now most people are very fond of the 2000s. Funny how times change. The 2010s will have the same fate.

I agree.  There are even eras in my own life that look better looking back through rose colored glasses than I actually thought they were when living them.  I look back at 2009 for instance as one of my best years, but in actuality it was a very wild ride with a lot of unpleasant and downright scary times.  The good things that happened that year however outweigh the bad and I look back on the era as a "golden age" so to speak.

I'm not fond of the 00s as a whole. I'm fond of the idea that there were alternatives to turn to in the 00s. Now there isn't. Now even underground is bad.

Looking at what is going on with Trump and North Korea, it could be that the next decade will be about rebuilding society in a post-apocalyptic world.  Those who survive will likely look back on today as a golden age.

Screw baggy jeans and bring back emo. Calarts style cartoons are kinda trash I guess. Screw social conservatism, which anti-SJWs want, and which they are trying to bring back.

Also, I don't really like platform games. I prefer 3D games like Saints Row 2 and the Sims. Lots of exploration and interaction with the world, kinda like Skyrim.

It's so weird, because it's not summer anymore. All the leaves have fallen off the trees (I just raked my backyard last Thursday) but then out of nowhere we got this crazy heat wave and it's hotter than even summer was :o

Oh, my bad. They haven't fallen off all the trees yet. Smaller aspens (and the ones at my train station) and birches have lost all their leaves, but the bigger trees like maples, ash trees and oaks etc. still have their coloured leaves.

Autumn began early this year (at the beginning of September). Usually all the leaves are gone by the end of October/beginning of November, that's when it starts snowing in Ontario (earlier in other provinces). January/February is the dead of winter here and when we're digging our cars out of the snow, autumn is a distant memory by then. ;D

How are the 2010s similar culturally to the 2000s?

Oh because pop culture and general attitudes are similar and the 2010s and 2000s are both similar decades. Music is still trashy and sexualized, materialism is still in, general attitudes are the same, post-modern style and shows and movies are still popular, reality shows still air, people are still obsessed with technology (just different forms of it now) and even fashion hasn't changed drastically. All of these were common in the early 2000s. Technologically they aren't similar, culturally on the other hand they are. But the 1990s and 1980s for example had a much bigger drastic change in culture and were not similar in culture. I think this may happen in the 2020s, I hope it does.

Not really. A couple years ago a woman on this board said if she were to look through her closet at clothes from 2003, she would be able to wear them. The same cannot be said for wearing '80s clothes in the early 2000s.

Subject: Re: Anyone else excited for the 2020s?

Written By: LooseBolt on 09/24/17 at 8:56 pm

Really, I think today's fashion looks like a cross between '80s and '90s, so it's interesting you make that comparison. I'm not disagreeing that you could wear stuff from 2003 and not look out of place, I just think 2010s culture stands out very much from that of the 2000s. So if, say, someone were to time warp from 2013 to 2007 or even 2008, I think they would look out of place.
