The letter was written by Australian Greg Wilkinson (currently 61 years old) on April 15th, 1995. It's scary how accurate he was and he wrote this letter 22 years ago :o.

What do you guys think?

The 1990's. :.sigh:.

I remember gas was just $0.98 from where I was from. Those days are gone forever.

I guess someone could read the writings on the wall if they pay enough attention to things and their own surrounding. It's not being 'psychic' per say, but if you're smart you can get a higher probability of being right.

That is true. However, it's the fact that almost no one in the 1990s, even if they were really smart, thought that today we would be dealing with Islam would be the “next ideological problem” facing the world. Also, no one, except maybe economists, thought that China would be the next big economic superpower with America being more dependent on China than vice versa. In the 1990s, most people thought that it would be Japan not China.

Just out of curiosity, how did you find that website article?

Either way, it was an interesting read and thanks for sharing it. :) Although he accurately predicted the geopolitical problems of today, one of his predictions turned out to be inaccurate. He believed that the Prime Minister of Australia at the time, Paul Keating, would remain PM for a long time. However, Paul Keating lost the 1996 Federal Election. :P

I was actually just searching for things related to 1997 but this letter from 1995 popped up.

Yeah, he wasn't 100% accurate but he still made 2 other spot on predictions. Oh A.D. yeah, it's a very interesting read.

Not true.  Those of us who were aware knew this was the case.

Remember, this was written in 1995.  2 years after the WTC bombing.  4 years after the Gulf War, and the rise in Islamic extremism.  2 years after the Blackhawk Down incident, and the rise of Al-Qaeda.  3 years after bombing attacks by AQ in Yemen.  12 years after the attack on US and French forces in Beirut.  A decade after multiple hijacking and pirate attacks by extremists in the region.  6 years after the fatwah against Salman Rushdie, and a string of attacks and assassination attempts against him and others attached to the book.

No, it may come as a surprise to the sheep, but those who are aware knew what was coming.  With the fall of the Soviet Union 4 years prior, this was obviously the "next big thing".

If this thread was made only because he mentioned Islam being the next threat in the world in 1995, then I am not that shocked. I mean, the Gulf War and the 1993 WTC bombings were Part 1 of the War on Terror, just before 9/11. It's no big surprise that Islamic fundamentalists were planning on attacking America for that long. Add to the fact that they considered America to be Israel's sympathizers (which might be one of the reasons why 9/11 happened), it's not that surprising. I'm kinda sick and tired of seeing the 90s being known as the most peaceful decade, where as Islamic fundamentalism already corrupted America by the time Bill Clinton was president.

OK bud, calm down....it's not that serious. Also, he didn't just make one accurate prediction.

Calm down and relax. Also, are you forgetting about his other accurate prediction and the fact that the guy who wrote the letter is AUSTRALIAN not American? Not everyone in the world is American you know.

Back in 1994 I was attending the University of Chicago and was assigned to write a paper about Japanese industrial power and how it related to America. I told my prof that I was changing the subject, and instead made the prediction that by 2000, Red China would become the world's largest steel making country.

Yeah but that didn't happen and that's not what the man predicted.

This was also actually an ongoing evolution.

Now here I am going to show my age, but the "Online World" did not come about because of the Internet.  It actually predates the opening up of the Internet by over a decade.

By the early 1980's, "online" services were already widely available, both directly and indirectly.  Many banks and travel agencies were already offering "bank by computer" services, available to anybody that had a modem.  And a real professional in a great many areas (science, author, lawyer, researcher) was generally not worth bothering with if they did not have a CompuServe e-mail account.

In 1995, CompuServe, Prodigy, AOL, Delphi, and GEnie were all very active, with hundreds of thousand more small businesses and users running "Bulletin Board Systems" (BBS).  Enough that there were even magazines dedicated to this hobby.

And even the Free BBS had international free e-mail capabilities.

All The Internet really did was take all of those separate systems and unify them into a single system.  By the time that was written, even CompuServe had migrated from being their own Online Content Services to being Internet Service Providers.

So once again, nothing really surprising to anybody who had been following this industry for more then a couple of years.

As a side note, I ran my own BBS from 1989-1995.  I saw the writing on the wall even back then and closed up shop.  Where once I had hundreds of callers a week from as far away as Australia and Peru, I saw call rates decreasing to less then 200 a month (most of those were because I was an official McAffee distribution site).  All my friends had already made the jump to the Internet, and some of the first ISPs in the area were actually the larger BBS systems (one already had 25 phone lines and an ISDN line, migrating to providing ISP services at that point was childs play).

Dot Com actually took a few years longer, as it took time for those other then porn companies to find a way to really make money in this new medium.

What didn't happen?  China is not only the largest steel making country in the world, it makes more steel than the rest of the world combined. My prediction in 1994 was considered brash and foolish by some. I got the last laugh.

You said by the year 2000 not "eventually", "within 20 years", etc. So your statement didn't happen.

Well yeah, I'm pretty sure he's Australian alright. He never mentioned anything related towards the United States, since he mentioned local politics in his country. I just say because the world treats 9/11 as the day that changed sh*t, even though it only affected Americans. I'm not sure why other countries have to dwell with our problems as they have their own domestic situations.

I'm saying that the world treats today's geopolitical problems like it changed the world forever. Like of how he said that Islamic fundamentalism would be the next threat to the world, despite it already attacking several countries in the 90s. Even though we did have worse in the 20th century (*cough* The Soviet Union and United States almost having a war with each other, which would lead to destroying the whole world *cough*).

But that's not what I was implying (or the guy).

Then what was this whole thread about (aside from the geopolitical part)?

Although I was a kid throughout the 90s, I member the decade feeling relatively peaceful on an international level from a US citizen's standpoint since we weren't involved in anything big.
