Subject: Debbie Harry joins calls for YouTube to pay musicians fairly

Written By: Philip Eno on 04/26/16 at 9:57 am

Blondie star Debbie Harry is the latest artist to put pressure on YouTube to "support the musicians and artists who have made that platform what it is today."

In a blog post for The Guardian she says she feels "compelled to speak out on behalf of a new generation of artists who are not being treated or compensated fairly."

She adds: "Artists are being exploited to make a very small percentage of people extremely rich."

It's after Nikki Sixx told the BBC YouTube and Google should live up to their corporate mottos and "do the right thing".

Someone is not going to be on the front page again.

Edit: oh it's someone from Blondie. There's no obligation for her to put her stuff on YouTube. Do they still make new music?

Yeah! They should take the money from those hacks who sit in front of their cameras and blab their mouths offs with their stupid opinions nobody cares about and give it to the musicians instead.

I think they all earn around the same per view.

That's fine. They should stop paying them (and those dudes who run their mouths off over video game footage. They are the worst) and give the musicians more money.

This doesn't surprise me. A serious chunk of Blondie's discography isn't available on the American iTunes, including Parallel Lines, Eat to the Beat, and The Curse of Blondie.
