I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread for this. The media over here hyped it as the next big thing, à la iPhone.

It's a $35,000 electric car, the first in its price range. It's going to have self-driving/autopilot capabilities just like the Model S. It has a range of 400 kilometres/270 miles, and charges up to 80% in half an hour.

Already there have been over 400,000 pre-prders for a car that isn't even coming out until 2018. There were huge lines for it downtown over here, with many people lining up just to pay $1,000 to pre-order it!

What do you guys think? Is the next big thing already on the horizon? I can see the late '10s being defined by a lot of primitive versions of 2020s technology.

If Elon Musk can pull this off (which I think he can) then the Model 3 could very well be the electric Volkswagen Beetle.

I don't really like the interior setup though, it's too plain for my tastes.

Just wait till Apple comes out with their iAuto.
