Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg are teaming up for a new Indiana Jones film, The Walt Disney Company has announced. The fifth episode of the franchise will be released in July 2019. The as-yet-untitled film will come 11 years after the most recent Indiana Jones film, 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Not necessarily. Could easily base it off a lesser known villain, like Temple of Doom did.

Or you know...they could just ignore that stuff. The entire 1960s wasn't the goddamn Wonder Years, and Indiana Jones didn't usually pay tribute to pop culture goings on.

They could easily set the movie in 1960. Look at the early Bond movies. Not a world far removed from the era Indiana Jones was in. Far removed from today's world, and also from "Flower Power".

The thing about Harrison Ford in Star Wars is that due to his age, they transformed his character from the dashing anti-hero sidekick into the sequel trilogy's equivalent of Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Finn and Poe assuming the role that Solo once occupied. It's all too tempting to skew focus away from Indiana Jones as the main hero and turn him more into a mentor, as he was already becoming in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and as Han Solo fully transformed into in The Force Awakens.

Honestly, with all things considered, I think the best use of Indiana Jones in the upcoming movie would be as like an army general figure, with the action-oriented focus more on the quirky ensemble characters, much like The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Harrison Ford has said he did not want to star in a new Indiana Jones film without director Steven Spielberg. The actor is due to star in a fifth Indiana Jones film, which will be released in 2019.
