Subject: Kung Fu Panda 3 fights way to top of the US box office

Kung Fu Panda 3 has topped the US box office on its opening weekend with takings of $41m (£28.7m).

The third installment of the computer-animated comedy features the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie.

Back in 2008, the first film in the franchise took $60.2m (£42.2m) in its debut weekend, with $47.7m (£33.4m) in 2011 for the second.

Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar-nominated epic The Revenant took the number two slot, with $12.4m (£8.7m) in its sixth week of release, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens in third, taking $10.8m (£7.6m) in US cinemas over the weekend.
