Subject: We are now in the 7th year in the 2010s

The so called legendary " 1996" " 2006" of the 2010s, wow 2010 feels so long ago!!!
The year that ends in 6 according to past history is the peak of the culture. It is so unreal
we are so far removed from early 2010s.

2009 feels like yesterday ;D
Early 2010s is not even worth distinguishing from mid-2010s for me. With the inevitable election of Donald Trump at the end of the year, we'll look back at 1972 - 2016 as one era ;D

To me it does, and I'm younger than you. Anything from 2008-present feels like yesterday & recent to me because of my personal life and the cultural shift that occurred later that year. My 2002-2007 memories are crystal clear but don't feel like yesterday. 2006-2007 feels dated. 2002-2005 feels like long time ago to me. 2001 & earlier feels like billions of years ago.

I mean 2009 does not seem as recent as 2008 2006 etc... but I feel so far removed from any of 2009 , like the songs on the radio are not the same at all, stores have closed, etc etc I feel like 2016 is going to be the peak of 2010s like 2006 was with the 2000s.

I wouldn't say this is always the case, but sometimes it is. Being that 2011 was the last good year of my personal life, each New Years gets more and more depressing.
Numerically, we are on the downhill side of the mid '10s and will start the late '10s next year. Culturally...that remains to be seen. As I've said in other threads, I don't foresee any kind of significant shift on the horizon.

In the small town where I live, much of the stuff they are playing on the local radio station as "new music" came out around 2009 for most of the country. "Run This Town" by Jay Z is currently very popular here as is "Hotel Room Service" by Pitbull.

Eh, I'm not too impressed with the technology of the 2010s. The smart phones (which is constantly getting pointless upgrades), smart watches, google glasses, apps, selfie sticks, social media (how many freaking social media sites do we really need?), and the overall hipster technology spewed out by google/apple in this decade, is not that impressive to me. And then there were those fake hoverboard/segway things that were just stupid. There isn't really anything mind blowing in this decade when it comes to technology. It's pretty overrated, if you ask me.

At least y'all have recent championships. Georgia (college football) hasn't gotten one since 1980 which I obviously didn't witness, and the Atlanta Falcons only went to one in 1998 which I was too young to remember but we lost that so we have 0 rings. But I get we're referring to the 2015 season specifically. I guess the Atlanta Hawks going to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time their whole history was the only highlight for us, but I'm more of a football fan than basketball in general. I can't get into baseball for some reason, but our Braves were awful this year so....

Sorry to hear that. 2015 hasn't been that great for me either. On the bright side though, the bad experiences have helped me look at things from a different angle. And now I'm really motivated to make changes in my life, starting this year. Hopefully, in that regard, 2016 will be the beginning of a new era for both of us.

Besides bigger steps into following my dreams, I think the mid 2010s have given us better music, movies and television shows than the early 2010s did. Seeing how 2015 built up on 2014, I have no reason to think 2016 will be worse.

To be fair, 2015 was actually an above-average year for movies. Some of the highlights from this year include:
* Star Wars: The Force Awakens - The best big budget action film I've seen in several years.
* Inside Out - Easily the best Pixar movie so far this decade (Toy Story 3 is good, but overrated).
* The Martian
* Bridge of Spies
* Spy
* Cinderella
* Love & Mercy, Amy, and Straight Outta Compton - 2015 compensates for its sub-impressive music with several definitive musical biopics
This is just scratching the surface, as there are quite a few other movies released this year that look good or that I'm even planning on seeing (Carol, Shaun the Sheep Movie, Creed, etc.).
Unfortunately, in all other ways besides film, 2015 was really, really disappointing to me. Technology hasn't advanced in any exciting way like it did in years like 1995 or 2007, the current sociopolitical atmosphere is extremely unpleasant despite the national legalization of same-sex marriage in America, rough-edged "independent" looks and hipster apparel only continue to grow more popular, the talentless Kardashian and Jenner families keep flooding social media new feeds every other day, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are incredibly popular, television is mostly comprised of shows I have no interest in watching (although most YouTube channels I follow have been solid for the most part), music has been quite underwhelming aside from Adele, and the gaming industry has been less exciting than ever before.

Yeah 2014 was much better. For my personal life 2014 is my favorite so far, since it was the year I graduated high school and that summer was one of the most relaxing relief moments I ever had, and some of the music that carried on from late 2013 to early 2014 were really good. 2015 has been the first full year from start to finish I've been in college, and despite how free you are, if you're not disciplined, then you'll have to face the consequences, and hopefully in 2016 I'll do much better. It's better that I go through this pain now than suffer much later towards the end of college or after.

2014 was a great year for me. Finally got out of my shell and started making new friends. Entered the exciting world of high school(even if I go to an all guys school :( )my grades were really good and I was just generally happy. 2015 started out bleak but got better around April. It started sucking again in July(Which wasn't helped by my great grandma dying in September) and then in late October I finally got the optimism to just enjoy life again. After a rough year but one that got better in the end I am looking forward to the last year(presumably) of the 2010s. The only part of this year I am not looking forward to is, according to statistics, a very very slow economy. With Chicagos PMI (general manufacturing health level for the Midwest) at 42.9(never been that low outside of a Recession, it really makes me think we are going to enter a Recession this year. However my life has actually been pretty happy other than dreading that. My gastric problems from April until September have gone away for the most part. Even though I lost some friends in 2015 I also gained some really good ones that I hope will be around throughout 2016.
Here is how I would rate my years of the 2010s
2010: 9/10 Still lived in my huge house and did not know anything about a foreclosure. Really listened to a lot of pop music and was generally very happy.
2011: 3/10. Man what a sucky year. Moved, switched schools and was generally unhappy.
2012: 10/10 What a very happy and great year for me. Went places, did fun things listened to a lot of pop music(even if it was crappy) and was enjoying life a little bit. 2010-2012 I generally did not have a social life.
2013: 0/10. This was my worst year ever in my life. ALOT of personal problems, family issues, gained a lot of weight, didn't go to as many places was mostly at home. I was very very sad.
2014: 9/10. Started out very unhappy with everything in my life but eventually got over it. Finally entered high school. Made a lot of friends. Enjoyed music from this year mostly except for Fancy and most of the Trap music. Ended on a high note but I could see trouble brewing.
2015: 6.5/10. This year started very bleak. Even though we had a snow week in Febuary which was pretty awesome being off school that long I was not happy at all. I started Football with the team in January and it turned out I really was not good enough to play even though I had the body type, so I instead became the waterboy. I lost a friend in Febuary which was very tough on me. March was a turning point and I was starting to get a little happier. January-March was just one of what I would desribe as limbo, like it felt like nothing good was happening. In January and Febuary I made two new friends. One I am still really really good friends with and the other I lost in August-September. April-July were some very happy days and I was happy. The 2015 Florida vacation was very nice and I had a lot of fun but as soon as I got home, my life started turning sour. Early August- Late October I can only describe as pure hell. Lost my best friend in a huge fight, had gastric problems which were really horrible, I even threw up on the first day of my sophomore year. Then my great grandma died which was really all of a sudden in late September and that only made things worse. However by early November I was starting to get happier in my life, my friend I made in Janury we became pretty close and I was happy. December was a great month for me and really ended my year on a high note.
(Sorry for the long paragraph about 2015)
I am looking forward to 2016!!!!

I wish I could say I was looking forward to 2016 but I don't see this year bringing many changes in my life. If anything, I am predicting a worse year than 2015. Here is how I would rate my years so far of the 2010s.
2010: 8/10 - Living my dream and discovering myself after having moved to a large coastal city a few months prior. Made a lot of mistakes but I don't regret anything I did during this time because it really helped me figure out who I was as a person
2011: 9/10 - Much like 2010, but was a little more responsible and mature and made less mistakes. 2011 was one of the best years of my life and the last year I was truly happy.
2012: 3/10 - Due to the recession and pressure from family, I had to move back to my small hometown where I still reside to this day. It's a decision that not a moment goes by that I don't regret it
2013: 2/10 - Reality sets in about my situation. Gone are the days of being able to be my own person and here are the days of having to conform to what is expected of me
2014: 1/10 - I make a monumental financial mistake which basically condemns me to live in this town where I am miserable until 2020. I also go to counseling which makes things much, much worse than they already were. 2014 was the worst year of the decade thus far.
2015: 4/10 - Improvement compared to 2013 and 2014. This could have been a better year had it not been overshadowed by things like Caitlyn Jenner and the SCOTUS decision on gay marriage. I am liberal but I live in an extremely conservative, Bible Belt town and people are very passionate about these issues but on the opposite side from where I stand.

I have to disagree on music and fashion. Both of those things are improving. The hipster look is in decline, dude. It's no longer everywhere like it was in 2012-early 2014. I also noticed during the holiday season of this year that beards, man-buns, side-buzzes, and joggers are not anywhere near as commonplace as they were anywhere from 1-2 years earlier. Man buns, women's side-buzzes, and joggers were a just fad. Expect everything that I mentioned to be gone by Back-to-School 2016, at least where I live.

I agree for the most part. Except for one thing. I don't think hipster fashion grew in popularity in 2015, compared to 2014. I'd say it was growing in popularity until about 2014, and maintained that popularity throughout 2015. Then again it could be a regional thing. Personally, I didn't really notice an increase nor a decrease in hipster fashion in 2015.
2010s technology is definitely overrated, that's for sure.

Gotham, Atom, iZombie, Two Broke Girls, Hindsight (before it got cancelled), RWBY (YouTube show), and Big Bang Theory (made their best season in 2014-2015 and the new one is just as good).
Awesome! Glad you're one of the people who enjoys Gotham. I haven't kept up with the show since the end of season 1 so I gotta catch up with it. I also enjoy The Flash and Arrow too but I haven't watched Supergirl yet. One of my other favorite shows is "The Walking Dead" and some of it has been filmed in my hometown including other parts of Georgia. I haven't watched Big Bang Theory, American Horror Story, or Game of Thrones in a long time though.

Ugh, may 2015 rot in Hell. 8-P
It was a pretty abysmal year for me. My depression and mood swings got worse during the spring semester. I failed two classes and ended up on academic probation, which resulted in my having to cancel my intern abroad trip to Spain I was planning for summer.
By the fall semester, things weren't as bad, but nothing really great happened to counteract the s*****ness that was the first half of 2015. The good news is, I did well enough during the fall semester to get off academic probation.

Hey what are your favorite television shows from the mid 2010's so far? Personally for me, I've enjoyed some of the DC shows and Marvel movies lately, but that's about it from what I can think of.
Orange Is The New Black :D
I'm also enjoying Making a Murderer.
House of Cards Season 3 was a disaster though. That series just keeps getting worse with each passing season. :(

2015 was better for me than 2014, but I hope I can make 2016 even better. Hopefully, lady luck won't keep spitting my face, over and over.
If karma exists (and I'm not sure that it does), I must have been an pain in the ass in my previous life. On the bright side, at least 2014 and 2015 were better.

With the smartphones and tablets? Yeah. They really do suck.

Welp everyone was excited for 2016 as it was theorized to be the peak of 2010s culture. Things turned out slightly sour to say the least ;D

But it kinda was, right? It felt like the climax of the decade to me.

2016 was the best year of my life. I wouldn't say it was the peak of 2010s culture though, the second half felt a lot like the beginning of the late 2010s. 2015 seems to be when pure 2010s culture was at its peak.

I liked 2016. It wasn't the best but it wasn't bad either. The Pokemon Go fad was pretty fun.

I bet 2019 - 2020 is gonna be GOAT. I bet things can only improve from here, on into the 2020s.
