Subject: Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook is working on a (sort of) dislike button
Written By: Philip Eno on 09/16/15 at 11:56 am
It’s been rumoured for years, but it seems that Facebook is finally working on a ‘Dislike’ button – having previously dismissed the idea as ‘too negative’.
Mark Zuckerberg said in a Q&A session today that the social media giant IS working on a Dislike button, and it will be tested soon.
Zuckerberg said, ‘We’ve finally heard you and we’re working on this and we will deliver something that meets the needs of the larger community.’
‘People have asked about the “dislike” button for many years, and probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it.’
Zuckerberg said that the company hoped that the button wouldn’t be used to be negative – but for people expressing empathy.

A dislike button would be nice. It just seems wrong when you see "Likes" on a post where someone talks about someone they know who has passed away

Exactly!
I wish for a 'no comment' button.

I want a "blow up the person's computer" button ... or "blow up the world" button. :)
Of course, that's part of the reason I'm not on Facebook... :-\\

That's why I would like one.
My worry is that people could use it to dislike photos or things, just to be bitchy

I can see myself using it to "dislike" all those B.S. political memes that make the rounds on Facebook.

Why not call it the 'sorry to hear' button?
