Subject: Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker to make stage debut
Written By: Philip Eno on 08/24/15 at 6:33 am
Forest Whitaker, who won a Bafta, a Golden Globe and an Oscar for portraying dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, is to make his theatre debut on Broadway.
He's starring in British director Michael Grandage's revival of the play Hughie.
Whitaker will take up the role of a drunken, small time hustler mourning the recent death of his friend - a hotel night clerk - next spring.
The play was first performed on Broadway in 1964 with Jason Robards in the central role. It has since been played by Rocky actor Burgess Meredith and Al Pacino.
