Fox has closed a deal with The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone to co-write and direct The New Mutants, a standalone spin-off to The X-Men.
The series, already part of the X-Men Comics universe, introduces a new crop of mutant characters born with special powers.
The low-budget Fault In Our Stars grossed $307m worldwide, turning Boone into hot property in the film business - particularly among teenage audiences.
He's already been hired to direct a reboot of The Vampire Chronicles - also the basis for the 1994 film Interview with a Vampire - and is among the names being circulated for the Spider-Man reboot.
"We're so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters," said New Mutants producer Simon Kinberg.
