Subject: Carrie the Musical, opens in London

Written By: Philip Eno on 05/07/15 at 6:17 am

Skip this item if you're squeamish.

Carrie the Musical - based on Stephen King's horror novel - has opened at London's Southwark Playhouse.

The famous scene at the high school prom, in which a bucket of blood is emptied over telekinetic teen Carrie White (Evelyn Hoskins), didn't disappoint.

At the end of the show the audience had to exit carefully across a stage floor awash with red gloop.

A notorious musical flop on Broadway in the 1980s, this reworked version of Carrie earned an ecstatic reception from last night's packed house.

And theatre critic Mark Shenton gave it a four-star thumbs up in The Stage describing it as "an unmissable chance to see a piece of musical theatre reclaimed from notoriety".

And the composer of the show's music? The aptly-named Michael Gore.

I wonder what the fake blood was made with to make it look real?

No one would attend the show and the musical would close?

The theatre should provide them?

Nah, that would diminish the vibe of the production.

With Carrie, you're on your own. Doesn't matter if you're John Travolta or Betty Buckley.
