There was a person who ran for our House seat (got the GOP nom) who was born a male, married a woman and THEN became a female. She remained married to her wife. This was when Vermont was pushing for same-sex marriages and this person was against it.  :o :o :o  It was ok for HER to be married to another woman because she was a male when she did. Well, it's a matter of when/where.  You correctly point out that it's kinda complicated when things we thought were constant, can change.

People are still figuring out how to deal with this, because up until about 50 years ago, it really wasn't possible to change sex.  Medical technology has caught up and can do some things that weren't possible before.  So just like we had to define death as something other than the lack of a heartbeat (we deliberatly stop hearts all the time during open heart surgery and don't speak of the patient being dead on the operating table), we've had to come up with new conventions for sex and gender, and with that, sexuality.

What he meant was that when he lived as a man, he was attracted to women.  Male attracted to opposite sex?  Heterosexual.
After he transitions, he'll be a she.  Ask her who she's into.  Female attracted to same sex?  Lesbian.
