I hope he continues his battle with alcohol and gets treatment for it and wins the battle, and gets his life together again.

They did, but in the early 1970s.
Most of the young girls back then either liked David Cassidy or Donny Osmond.

But they were all heartbroken when Donny married. David was sort of the screw up of all teen idols. :P

By the time the mid 70s came around, David and Donny were "yesterday's news". Donny got married in 1978 and most of the young girls who liked him in the early 1970s grew past that stage.
When David screwed up, he was no longer a teen idol. For those too young to remember, David Cassidy was really famous in between 1970 to about 1974.
A few teen idols have screwed up more than David.
I don't know about that. Can you say Leif Garrett?

Yeah but Leif has his life together, sort of, and David just seems to be involved in one screw up after another.

True, but Leif was into (and probably still is) into a lot worse stuff than alcohol. Plus he started younger.
