Part of the reason I watched the show was the interaction between Brian & Stewie, and Peter's stupidity.
Gives me less reason to watch the show now.

Brian used to be like the words of wisdom for the show, but in the recent seasons he became a complete douche. Quagmire has also become somewhat unlikable in the past couple of seasons. I don't know if this is an attempt to give him more of a backstory or something, but it's not working for me.

If you believe the intent was to write Brian out of the script (rather than boost ratings before bringing him back), that was part of the rationale: even the fans had realized he was basically the mouthpiece for Seth MacFarlane. I liked the role; he served as a foil for everyone in the show, and the pairing between Brian and Stewie worked. OTOH, the development of the relationship between Stewie and Vinnie has potential.

There is no comparing an animated tv character to the achievements of one of the greatest men to have ever lived however that doesn't make this discussion any less relevant.
