MTV uses women as sex objects to sell consumer products to adolescents.  It has done so for thirty years.  I remember the same moral panic over Madonna's undies in 1984.  IMHO, Madonna had talent in spades, Miley has none, but that's irrelevant.  If a peek of cleavage or a flash of thigh no longer puts little Billy and Tommy in a shopping trance, then we have to ramp up the skin.  That's what is happening with Gaga and Miley.

If you don't like it, don't watch.  If you don't want your kids to see it, tell your service provider to block MTV from your subscription.  That's the method I would choose.  Parental outrage only stokes the raunch.  Everybody's parents should know that, especially in 2013!  Come on!  Some of those parents outraged over Miley are children of parents who were outraged over Billy Idol in 1983 or the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1991.

I don't object to explicit sexuality.  I do object to commodification of human sexuality in service of consumer capitalism.  At the same time, I would rather have my kid see Robin and Miley bump and grind than have him murdering prostitutes in Grand Theft Auto.  Pick your poison.

I like the point about the Syrian women and girls, but I can ALSO understand why some parents are angry.

I myself was a victim of hyper-eroticized American thinking.  During the early 1990s (I was about 11 at the time), I wanted to dress like a female classmate who wore big tee-shirts with tube top-tight skirts, and I kept telling my mother that I wanted to be a prostitute at the local mall.  During college, I allowed my self-esteem to be destroyed as I compared myself to every image of, and every word about women that Cosmo printed in their blasted, toxic magazine!  Heck!  The writers of Jane magazine were more fair about how to treat my sense of self-worth; I eventually ditched Cosmo, convinced that it was the most toxic thing for women since...whatever I thought the most toxic thing for women was back then...

I have a few comments to make about Robin Thicke, though.  His name sounds like that of a Chip N Dale stripper, and he looks hot enough to BE a stripper; he's more than likely MUCH to young for me, and, besides, I usually only go for guys who are at LEAST a decade older than I am.  If he were between the ages of 44 and 49, though, I'd TOTALLY be his girlfriend, fer SHURR!  I have a weakness for hot guys who sport the Ryan Seacrest hairstyle!
