Personally, I find "Harlem Shake", "Thrift Shop", "Can't Hold Us", and "Blurred Lines", all of which have spent multiple weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 this year, to be incredibly irritating songs. I'm not really a Bruno Mars fan either. The only hit that I've liked so far this year is "Just Give Me a Reason"

2012 was much better.

It's your opinion, but personally I think this has been a good year for music. The year is barely halfway over, and my playlist is already long. There's a variety of music offered. There's still some early 10's dance, such as Icona Pop and Zedd, some good hip-hop such as Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, some alternative rock including Imagine Dragons, and Justin Timberlake and Rihanna have some good songs.

I think 2013 has been a horrible year for Lindsey Lohan, Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus.

The popular stuff this year has been kind of dull IMO. Not incredibly irritating like it usually is, just not all that memorable.

Radio is not really the best tool to use for judging music as a whole. It's kinda like judging a entire family based on the drunk uncle. lol

There's lot of good music out there, and the internet makes it much easier to find nowadays (legally, of course!)

I actually thought 2013 has been a pretty damn good year for music so far.  Even if we're judging solely by the top 40, there's a lot of variety on there.  Some on here have commented that there seems to be no unifying music trend in 2013 as it's a hodgepodge of sounds, but I like that.  Some bad stuff of course (see: new Miley Cyrus song and "Harlem Shake"), but just looking at the Top 40 right now, I like the following:

- Blurred Lines
- Get Lucky (song of the year imo)
- Can't Hold Us
- Mirrors
- Treasure
- My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark
- Clarity
- Love Somebody
- When I was Your Man
- Safe and Sound (surprised this got in there, albeit barely.  Great song)

I don't like the 10th retro disco revival trend, Get Lucky really sucks, can't believe it is a hit at all(along with the rest of that terrible album RAM).

Bruno Mars wouldn't know originality if it hit him in the face, he literally has no distinct identity, I mean he steals from Elton, The Police, and Michael Jackson with his latest single.

2013 has been a mixed bag for me, but I've found some good gems. Honestly I'd say its been better than 2012 in terms of music. I am however, not a huge fan of bands like fun. and imagine dragons. Though I do like fall out boy's new song and Harlem by New Politics also caught my eye. Most of the top 40 stuff sounds like the same crap from 2-3 years ago though. Out of the past 5 years though, I'd say 2011 was my favourite year for music, while 2008 and 2010 were my least favourites.

seriously! My mum said the same thing (although she likes it oddly enough).
And yes I don't understand why disco keeps getting revived when most people seem to want it gone.

2013 has been a better year than 2012 in my opinion.  Hip-hop & R&B is really shining again this year after having a few down years.  Dance pop is still around but there's also more faux-hipster rock on the radio.  I would say things are starting to move back into balance after being completely dominated by dance since 2009.

So far, I'm liking 2013 a lot more than 2012. I'm personally digging the retro late 70's/early 80's vibe going on with some of these songs. 8)

Don't worry, I don't like listening and don't listen to any music, except my favorite ~30 songs, 85% of which are from the 80's and the other 15% are from 2001-2003.

I agree I've been listening to the internet radio more often.

I actually think music has improved a lot since like 2010. We still have a ways to go though.
