Subject: Anyone wanna predict the 2012 Billboard Year-End Chart?
Written By: MarkMc1990 on 11/24/12 at 8:04 pm
They'll be tabulating/releasing that chart in about another month.
My predictions (I'm only doing the top 10):
1. Call Me Maybe -- Carly Rae Jepsen
2. Somebody That I Used to Know -- Gotye
3. Gangnam Style -- Psy
4. We Are Young -- Fun
5. One More Night -- Maroon 5
6. Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) -- Kelly Clarkson
7. What Makes You Beautiful -- One Direction
8. Set Fire to the Rain -- Adele
9. Payphone -- Maroon 5
10. Some Nights -- Fun

I never really got why One More Time has been number one for so long. It really isn't that impressive of a song. :-\\

Will there even be Billboard in the Kingdom of Heaven?

Music was actually solid this year. I haven't liked mainstream music in a long time. I hated music in 2007, 2003, 2011 etc, but songs have been catchy and even some songs like Goyte and Fun have made it into the charts. I might like music in 2013 too.

I'd say it was a mixed bag...most of the songs were actually catchy AND melodic which was something that had been lacking in recent years. I really liked "Somebody That I Used to Know", and "Call Me Maybe" sounds like a modern take on something Tiffany or Debbie Gibson could have released back in the day. I hate "Gangnam Style" though, which is the biggest joke to (almost) top the billboard chart since "Ice Ice Baby"

I agree. 2012 was a brilliant year for music!
I think the Gotye song will get #1 but I think the reality is Call Me Maybe is a much bigger song in terms of impact, despite receiving slightly less airplay.

I think the top 3 songs of 2012 are...
1. Call me maybe
2. Somebody that I used to know
3. We are Young
4. Gangnum Style

I didn't like the first 4 months of 2012 music, because there was still 2011's songs' on the radio. That's normal i guess. But music got better as the year went by!
I think that I will like 2013 music, but you know... I could be wrong! ;D

Do you mean the Top 10 or the Top 100 in general? I definitely agree it will make the 100 (probably even Top 25), but I don't know about Top 10.

I'll bet you a fake $1,000,000 Gotye will beat Carly despite his song having less of a cultural impact.

Yeah I have to admit I'm surprised it stayed at the top of the chart for so long. Heck, it tied Call Me Maybe, and if not for Rihanna's Diamonds, probably would have beat it.

Part of Me and Payphone are the first songs that come to mind. One More Night spent like 8 weeks at #1 lol 8-P
Oh, and Call Me Maybe, of course :P And Somebody That I Used To Know.
idk what order they would be in tho.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Gotye beat Call Me Maybe, but Call Me Maybe seemed to have a little more longevity. When I hear "STIUTK" now, it seems like a "relic" of the first half of 2012 (I think it officially ran its course and people are so damn sick of hearing it now), whereas CMM still gets a warm reception when the DJ plays it at the club. To be fair, CMM is newer though.

Yeah the Gotye song is so overplayed now. I associate it with last spring which honestly seems like ages ago.

Talk about a sleeper hit! It was actually recorded in 2008, and I'm pretty sure it was released in 2009.

It's radio airplay that kept it at #1, nothing more. It's never been #1 in terms of sales, ever. If we were going by #1 in terms of sales alone, Gangnam Style would have hit #1 ages ago and still be there right now.

I really don't like "One More Night" either, way too generic sounding. Maroon 5's early stuff was pretty good but their last album sounds like cookie cutter radio fluff to me.

Would you look at that, I was right all along. It made it to #5! ;D
Everyone who said One More Night was dead wrong as it came in at #18. Somebody That I Used To Know did beat Call Me Maybe and it's the best song of 2012 while Call Me Maybe sits at #2. Most people guessed Payphone and Set The World On Fire right. Gangnam Style isn't even in the Top 30. :P

"Somebody that I used to Know" made it to #1 on the VH-1 list for 2012 too.
Flo Rida's single "Whistle" only made it to #14 at VH1 for the year. Which does not make alot of sense since it was at #1 for at least three weeks during the year. ???
