Frankly all these glass skyscrapers look totally out of place in the London skyline. I guess after a few more though they won't look so awkward next to the remaining older buildings.
Supposedly the Shard isn't even being occupied by anyone from England... all foreign speculators. I'm sure that will end well.

Just as long as they've paid up before they go bust and leave :)
To be honest, I don't really care that much, but I was in London for a show my sister was performing in (and co-wrote), and you could see the Shard from where we parked. From the angle we caught it, there was a definite Isengard-ish look.. so I did the above photoshop :)

It looks like a cross between the John Hancock Building and a dildo.

London is an old city with it's own history and seeing these modern buildings all appear to be out of place.
The Shard was formally opened on 5 July 2012 by the Prime Minister of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, in a ceremony attended by Prince Andrew, Duke of York, but companies will not moving in for a few years yet.

I understand that when this building is felt swaying in heavy cross winds, the Londoners refer to the phenomenon as "Jerkin' the Gherkin'". ;D

I'm going there next month, and I can't wait to see the view from the top (especially seeing The Eye and Big Ben below). Another supertall structure that opened this year is Tokyo Sky Tree.

That says it all, doesn't it? The Prime Minister of Qatar... Will he be opening the 2012 Olympics as well?
