Subject: 2012: More alternative/indie rock and less electropop?
Written By: batfan2005 on 05/12/12 at 9:34 am
Now that we are nearing the summer season, it seems like the charts are becoming more dominated by songs like "We Are Young" by fun. or "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye, and less Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO, etc. There's some good songs this year.

Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Black Eyed Peas and LMFAO are examples of mainstream electropop that gets thrown to radio and overplayed. Alternative and indie rock is good, but if you want good electropop and dance music, you gotta know where to look ...

I think you are right. We will still see electropop around for a few years but I think it's slowly getting replaced by Indie which I like. By 2015, I think Indie music will be dominant. But who really knows. :P

I thought electropop would be like hip hop in the 2000s and stay around for at least 5 more years. Maybe I'm wrong about that. :-\\

Yeah, I think electropop will be here for awhile. Until around 2017/2018 or so.

hip hop is a music genre(was very changeful during the 2000s)
electropop is a subgenre of pop music(dont evolve)
electropop is more like teen pop and pop rap only the bridge between decades
indie rock will be like grunge or glam hip hop

Hip Hop is always changing. There was like 4 different eras alone in the 90s. That said, it isn't going nowhere anytime soon.
I doubt indie rock will be as big, but I do want it to stay for a while. Grunge has stayed until 2010, and I think lighter rock bands still have some marketing to go.

in others countries indie rock is mainstream since 2003 and is called the 2000s genre.

I think Electropop will carry of for a bit and indie/alternative is kind of a side genre in mainstream music that will be popular for a bit. If you look at the charts, 90% of the songs are still Electropop and only a few are indie/alternative. I don't think it will last throughout the decade and it will be popular for only a while in mainstream music as a popular side genre. Just like how in the early 2000s, we had Pop/Rap and R&B as the main genre but we also had some some punk/rock artists (with a pop feel) that came were popular on the side for a short period of time. I just think it's too early for Electropop to fade as it's so popular on the radio these past few years. I think that's what will happen but who knows. We may be transitioning as we speak. Electropop is a sub genre but clearly it's the most dominant type of music we hear on the radio these days.
