Subject: X Factor stars past and present top the UK charts
Written By: Philip Eno on 12/04/11 at 2:04 pm
X Factor stars past and present have topped both the singles and album charts this week.
This years X Factor charity single, a cover of the 1970s classic Wishing On A Star, went straight in at number one.
The track features the show's current contestants and former participants One Direction and JLS. All profits go to the Together For Short Lives charity.
Olly Murs, who was X Factor runner-up in 2009, topped the album charts with In Case You Didn't Know.
The star's second album shifted more than 148,000 copies in its first week and held off strong competition from Michael Buble's Christmas album, this week's number two.
It was Murs' first number one album as his debut eponymous record, released last year, was held off the top spot by Take That.
The X Factor contestants who appear on the latest single include all the singers who made it to the live finals, apart from Frankie Cocozza who left the show last month for breaking the show's rules.
A statement from boyband JLS, who made it to the final of the X Factor in 2008, said: "It's an absolute pleasure to have been invited by Simon to feature on the new X Factor charity single. It's all for a great cause."
Jessie J's Who You Are, was the only other new entry in the top 10 of this week's singles chart.
The track, taken from her debut album of the same name, climbed to number eight from last week's position of 37.
In the album chart, the second highest new entry was Il Divo's Wicked Game, which went straight in at number six.

Here's some news:
Olly Murs is the 2nd UK X-Factor contestant to make noise in North America (Leona Lewis being the first). His UK #1 smash 'Heart Skips A Beat', which features UK hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks, is rising up the Canadian chart, currently at #94. It has not charted in the US (atleast not yet). I have to admit, I never thought it would ever chart over here. It's a fun song ...

They do, but if you look at the current UK charts, you'd swear it was the 80s all over again. It's like 60% Christmas songs from 20-40 years ago lol
