Subject: WTF??? Universal removes Moustapha Akkad's name from Halloween II Blu-ray?
Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 09/16/11 at 9:10 pm
Although Halloween fans were eagerly awaiting this last Tuesday's release of the original 1981 Halloween II (Directed by Rick Rosenthal, not Rob Zombie), we have every reason to boycott the release.
It's not the fact that there are white "specks" in the picture (not the same thing as film grain), nor is is about the lack of lossless audio. It's because Universal slapped this man in the face...

The opening credit "Moustapha Akkad presents" was removed and replaced with the glaringly out-of-place
UNIVERSAL
AN MCA COMPANY
PRESENTS
>:( Nope. Nuh uh. Not gonna fly with us. WTF is that??? Moustapha Akkad did more for Halloween than anyone else associated with the franchise in its entire 33 years. He is the reason Halloween still exists. He was the one who kept Halloween alive. John Carpenter and Debra Hill get a lot of credit, but it was Akkad who put up the money when no one else would. He made Hallowen possible. Without him, there's no Halloween, no Michael Myers. The late producer's son Malek calls the stunt, "disgusting" and "disgraceful." Halloween fans are being called upon to boycott the Blu-ray until the mistake is rectified.
Removing Moustapha Akkad's name is a slap in the face. Universal's idiots should be ashamed of themselves. Corporate greed and plagiarism is what it is. Universal needs to get its act together. Release an amended version with the entire film restored, Akkad's credit reinstated, more substantial special features, lossless audio, white specks removed (if possible; please don't give us DNR or EE), and the original movie poster as the cover art.
We will not stand for this injustice. Akkad is rolling in his grave as we speak.
