Subject: 90s Nick!: You CAN do that on television -- The Splat debuts tonight on TeenNick
Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 05/17/11 at 7:33 pm
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/reviews/Wild-Thornberrys-Season-1/10928
We already know the news that classic Nick is coming back in a big way this year:
First was the (FALSE!!) rumor that Nick would produce new episodes of classic Nicktoons.
Then there was the far-more-legitimate news that TeenNick would, in fact, launch a new block of 1990s Nick shows called "The 90s Are All That." Guess one of the many shows already confirmed for the block. ;)
And then some more exciting news: Nickelodeon, Paramount, and Shout! Factory are releasing some long-lost classics for general retail, starting TODAY with The Wild Thornberrys - Season 1. There are no extras or anything (unusual for Shout), but you do get all 20 episodes.
More Nick/Shout titles on the way include Rocko's Modern Life (Season 1), Hey Dude (Season 1), Hey Arnold (Season 1), The Angry Beavers (Seasons 1 & 2)... and just revealed...
http://www.nickelodeon.com.au/toonroom/catdog/images/catc.gif
CATDOG!!! :D
Also slated for eventual release are Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and the more recent Danny Phantom.
Make sure you spread the word to all your fellow 80s and 90s kids. Don't let this brand flop like the Nick Rewind collection. Hopefully we can get more Pete & Pete, Clarissa, Alex Mack, and US releases of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Don't know if Double Dare or YCDTOTV would be feasible (or Nick Arcade), but it would be sweet. ;D
Thank you, Nickelodeon, Shotu Factory, TeenNick, 80s and 90s kids, and social networking sites for keeping Nickeloldies alive. :)

Hey Dude comes out July 19 from Nick/Shout Factory. There will even be a new interview with Christine "Melody" Taylor, who is now Mrs. Ben Stiller.

Are you sitting down on a big orange couch? Good, 'cause TeenNick's The '90s Are All That programming block has been bumped to July 23. It will air Weeknights from midnight to 4 a.m. ET and weekend afternoons from 4-6 p.m. ET! Holy orange soda!!! :D :D :D

This might sound "a little wild and a little strange" to non-Nick folks, but Hey Dude is finally out on DVD from Shout! And to make it even more exciting, they snagged an interview with Christine Taylor!!! Now, that's what I'm talkin' about! :D
Hopefully this sells well so that more classic Nick shows get released (especially more live action!). There are a lot of shows that could benefit from a DVD release or rotation on The 90s Are All That.
Speaking of which, that epic programming block has an OFFICIAL start date. Instead of Saturday (July 23), it will officially be MONDAY (JUNE 25)!! Same TeenNick Time, same TeenNick Channel. Mark your calendars.
You'll want a cold one (orange soda) after seeing this!

There's a whole crapload of official promos for it on YouTube. Just about every Nick property under the sun in featured:
Kenan Thompson
All That
Kenan & Kel
Weinerville
Legends of the Hidden Temple
Clarissa (check out Clarissa's dad in MC Hammer pants! ;D)
Double Dare
Inside Out Boy (SNICK short)
Stick Stickly
The Big Orange Couch (SNICK mascot)
etc, etc.
I'll keep this short and sweet and add that Shout reportedly recently signed Clarissa to their DVD deal! :D :D
It's all gonna be huge! :D

OMG! This is so exciting! ;D ;D :D :D
New York Magazine -- Nick's New '90s Nostalgia Block Is A Ratings Smash
The 90s Are All That knocked out some heavy competition, such as Lopez Tonight and reruns of Awkward, Old Christine, and HIMYM. I bet the folks at Nick are saying to themselves, "Why the hell didn't we think of this before?" ;D Ownage!
Thank you to TeenNick for taking a chance on us, and to the fans (like myself) for either tuning in or DVR-ing. So far, I've watched everything but all of Doug. They even had the brand new 90s Are All That remix music video that went viral a few days (or a week) ago. They even had clips from bumpers and shorts like Inside Out Boy. I feel like a kid again. ;D

Are they gonna be doing it again sometime in the near future? ???
Yes, it's an every night thing. It's on the TeenNick channel every weeknight from Midnight to 2 a.m. ET, and then insta-reruns until 4 a.m. ET. It's not just a one-time-only deal; it's permanent. :) :D And the ratings success seals the deal. Later down the road, they will rotate shows, add others to the lineup to keep things fresh, and they will eventually add voting to their Facebook page and The90sAreAllThat.com; we, the audience, are gonna help influence the lineup in the coming weeks, months, however long this block is gonna last (trust me, it's here to stay! :))
Shows expected to be rotated over the course include:
This week and next
All That
Kenan & Kel
Clarissa Exoplains It All
Doug
Coming soon (or at least hinted at):
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
The Amanda Show
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Double Dare
GUTS
Hey Dude (I know it's on DVD, but they've been showing bits)
Legends of the Hidden Temple
Ren & Stimpy
Rocket Power
Rocko's Modern Life
Rugrats
Salute Your Shorts
Secret World of Alex Mack
Weinerville
And plenty more! I hope that answers your question. :)

I watched The '90s Are All That last night with my little sister (who was born in 2000....bless her heart) and though I was slightly disappointed in the lack of '90s-era bumpers airing (as well as the drawn-out opening montage), I did have a very fun time last night watching it. I'm definitely going to tune in again tonight with my sister.

I will definitely like the 2010's if so.

Last night, Rocko and Hey Arnold had a special premiere night with an hour each devoted to the two shows (for last night only; All That and Kenan & Kel will return tonight with Rocko & Arnold in place of Clarissa & Doug). But it was something else that got our pulses racing.
A familiar and classic Nickelodeon legend popped up in the corner of the screen during Rocko -- none other than Stick Stickly. When they cut to a commercial, an epic promo announced:
Starting October 7, Stick Stickly will host the Friday-night edition of The 90s Are All That!!!
OMG this is so frakking exciting! ;D My childhood keeps flashing before my eyes! I hope October also brings Are You Afraid of The Dark? And Aaahh!!! Real Monsters.

Too manythings have happened with 90s Nick since my last post...
1. Block is back to Midnight ET every night
2. Are You Afraid of the Dark? Halloween marathon (with Aaahh!!! Rea lMonsters and other Halloween-themed episodes)
3. Thanksgiving marathons of Salute Your Shorts, Rugrats, All That, Kenan and Kel, etc.
4. u-Pick showdowns in which the shows not on the regular lineup win the whole night over All That and Kenan & Kel
5. Holiday extravaganza... holiday-themed Nick shows, and starting Kwanzaa and ending on New Year's Day, SNICK RETURNS!!! Plus, the'll reportedly play old bumpers and comemrcials! :D
6. More Shout Factory DVDs on the way in the coming year.
But another big development...
TeenNick considers "mighty" addition to The 90s Are All That
Nevermind that it wasn't a Nick show at the time, but now is retroactively due to the original owners repurchasing it and shooping it to Nick. Let's not spoil the surprise, now. ;)

Wow! I haven't updated this in almost four years?
Anyway, a lot has and hasn't happened in those four years.
Let's recap:
2011:
Nick/Shout Factory DVD announcements for Rocko's Modern Life and the Wild Thornberrys.
Rumor that Nick would be remaking/rebooting it's 90s shows with new episodes. (NOT TRUE)
The true announcement that classic Nick shows would air on The 90s Are All That block on TeenNick.
The block debuts Monday, July 25 at Midnight EDT. Kenan appears in ads and bumpers, sitting on the SNICK couch.
The block gets off to a fine start; Original lineup: All That, Kenan and Kel, Clarissa Explains It All, and Doug. Clarissa and Doug get swapped out in September and replaced with Hey Arnold! and Rocko's Modern Life.
The block briefly moves to an earlier timeslot before moving back.
The block resurrects Stick Stickly (of Nick in the Afternoon fame) to host U-Pick with Stick on Friday nights
For Halloween, the block brings back Are You Afraid of the Dark?, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, Kenan and Kel: 2 Heads Are Better Than None, and the long-lost (thought to be banned) TV movie, Cry Baby Lane.
New Year's brings back Face from Nick Jr.
2012:
Stick Stickly (ret)(f)ired for a while, due to New Year's hangover. Rumor has it voice actor Paul Christie had retired.
The lineup starts getting Static.
2013:
SNICK 21st birthday hosted by Kel
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers marathon in honor of its 20th anniversary
Stick Stickly returns to host Game Show Weekend Marathon to tie into Olympics.
2014:
Pretty much static. Current lineup is Hey Arnold, Rugrats, CatDog, and Hey Arnold M-F; Then Rocket Power and CatDog on weekends.
Which brings us to 2015.
There are rumors that Nickelodeon itself will be remaking/rebooting its older shows with new episodes, just like the 2011 rumor.
Another rumor states that the Nicktoons will star in a crossover teamup movie a la The Avengers.
And now the latest, and the reason I'm reviving this old thread...

The latest news to hit the Internet today is that Nickelodeon is launching "a new channel" dedicated to these same classic Nick shows. It's called The Splat. The Splat was previously the name of what is now the Nicktoons channel.
It's unknown what this means for The 90s Are All That block on TeenNick, but its Twitter and Tumblr pages have been rebranded as The Splat. In fact, its entire social media presence has been rebranded.
Wo knows? The block has been disappointingly static for a while. But at least they've played some My Brother and Me and one episode of Weinerville in the past two years. As well as the occasional Salute Your Shorts and Are You Afraid of the Dark?

The Splat started an hour ago with Pete & Pete shorts and You Can't Do That on Television (the first time the latter has aired since 2004). Right now is Kenan and Kel for an hour. Then an hour of Doug, and then an hour of Ren & Stimpy. Then the whole block repeats.
I can't believe this is real. Also, Kenan just did some trivia thing with a "millennial boy" and "millennial girl."
Other shows to be unearthed this week, that never or rarely aired on the previous 90s Are All That block (or were never part of the regular lineup) include:
Weinerville (aired only once back in April)
Welcome Freshman (Probably hasn't aired since 1993)
Roundhouse (Never aired on the 90s Are All That)
Salute Your Shorts (aired occasionally on the former block)
Are You Afraid of the Dark? (aired occasionally on the former block)
GUTS
Legends of the Hidden Temple
Double Dare
Figure It Out
So there's a lot to look forward to.
