The thing I like most about Facebook is that I've gotten back in touch with so many people I hadn't seen or heard from in ages.  Thanks to FB, in the last year I've gotten back in touch with pretty much all of my old Army friends, almost all of whom I hadn't heard from in almost 20 years.

Two weeks ago my girlfriend and I traveled to Illinois to meet up with an old Army friend whom I hadn't seen nor heard from since 1992, and I had pretty much given up on getting back in contact with him until about a month ago when he found me on Facebook.

And to me, getting reunited with all these long lost friends far, far outweighs any misgivings I may otherwise have about Facebook.

As to why I created this, I was just being a smartass, because I wouldn't be me if I weren't.  Coming back after a few months and seeing that the douches are still running rampant....yeah, it kind of dampens the enthusiasm to post more.

I'm not a huge fan of facebook either.I do have an account,but I haven't used it for months.I did find some old friends from my school days but I also heard from some people who treated me bad in the past.There's nobody on facebook that is truly important to my life now.I prefer these kinds of forums where I am anonymous.

Welcome back even if only for a little while.  The place has been pretty slow over the past few years.  Lyric aggregator sites, IMDB, Wikipedia, and TVTropes have gotten to the point that they answer most of the trivia questions, but every so often someone comes in with a occasional pop culture / old toy / old game question that can't be easily googled, so we're still useful.

And it's all because of you.  ;)

Decade ology and there were several good fights among members tgat brought things to halt too


I always get the short end of the stick.  :-\\ It's the story of my life.

I always join when the party's over, not when it's at its peak! Oh well, just my luck!

Decadeology killed these boards in a sense.  At one point, the 80s boards and even 90s boards were filled with back to back topics all from three certain members.  If you were to start a topic, it would either get buried by the non stop decadeology topics, or these members would find a way to start a decadeology discussion in your topic.

What pissed me off was when one of them decided to ease my constant complaining by bumping up old topics of mine, he thought he had the answer.  But what he did was only make it look like I was spamming because it was now all my topics that had filled the first page of the 80s board.

If I see decadeology topics now, i will do whatever I can to wreck them with my sarcasm and stupid responses.

Yeah, I remember reading the threads before i joined (2008) and the boards were a lot more busy back then. Then around 4-5 years ago for some reason (too much decadeology?) people started leaving inthe00s a lot. But I still love inthe00s though.

I have been here for close to 10 years.  :o :o :o :o :o (I didn't realize it was THAT long. Time flies when you are having fun.) Though that time, I have seen this place peak and fall only to peak again. You may have missed some things but there are many more things still yet to come that you will not miss.

Anyways, if anyone reading this knows anyone with even a semi-coherent grasp of pop culture, especially the late-90s and onwards, invite 'em in.  We promise we won't bite too hard.  We've got good coverage on 90s software, 80s games, and anything recorded between 1960 and around 2005, but we really could use the new blood.  Just... just don't bother with the "unread posts since last visit" link for a few years, and stick to the parts of the boards that still have actual discussion, and you'll do fine.

I was posting on the lyrics site and inthe00s before I realized they were run by the same guy. 

The older I get the less interesting polemics become.  I can tell at the outset what the flow the argument is going to be and the contestants are going to retain the same POV they started with regardless of the outcome.  I'm less inclined to argue for the sake of arguing.  Thus, I do much less with the politics board the I did five years ago.

I don't think inthe00s has declined permanently.  We are at a lower ebb of activity than we had in 2007, but as long as people keep posting, we'll be around. 

I suppose other social media has diverted traffic from message boards such as this one, but I rather like the anonymity.  I have a Facebook account, but I don't do anything with it because, like, I don't have a life!  Or I do have a life!
