It's still only the second year of the decade so to be honest I don't have a clue. I won't even give a guess until about 2013.

God forbid.
I'm ready for music to go back to a person's natural, non-computer assisted voice.

Rebecca Black has singlehandedly assured that autotune is here to stay.
How I long for a duet featuring Becky and Ke$ha... 8)

Rebecca Black has singlehandedly assured that autotune is here to stay.
It was meant to be this way,
But she don't know why.
Autotune is here to stay,
Is that what you meant to say?

Not really. Autotune has been popular since 2008. It's only been 3-4 years.

There isn't any autotune in that song, the first song to use autotune in the robotic voice effect is Believe by Cher(1998).

It wasn't called Autotune at the time, but it was a similar effect that paved the way for Autotune.
'Believe' by Cher was the first ever hit song to incorporate Auto Tune by Antares Audio Technologies

Is autotune the same as a Synclavier from back in the 80's?

auto tune seems kinda like the "bullet effect" used in The Matrix. Because after it was in that movie then it was in every other commercial and movie for years.

Yeah thats true I mean "Funkytown" by "Lipps Inc"(1980), and "I Want To Be Your Man" by Roger(1987) there is autotone in those songs. I think New Jack Swing producer Teddy Riley used a little autotone in songs when he was a member and also a producer for the R&B Group "Guy" from 1989-1991.
"The Way You Love Me' by "Faith Hill"(2001) also makes use of autotone.

No that's not autotune, that's vocoder for Funkytown and Roger and Zapp used the voicebox alot in the 80s, the voicebox was also used for other intruments during the 70s(guitar, like in Tell Me Something Good by Chaka Khan and Rufus). Autotune didn't even exist in the 80s or most of the 90s, the vocoder, voicebox, and autotune are all different effects.

The voicebox and vocoder are 2 different instruments.

auto-tune is a SOFTWARE pitch correction program that can be used as a vocoder (ie, T-pain) or used to make crappy singers sound like they have pitch (Becky Black). of course similar voice-changing mechanisms have been around since the 70s if not even before that.

If autotune makes a half-assed attempt of "singing" like this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrPOEvdKRAI
Sound like this....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR_qa3Ohwls
Then autotune, along with Ke$ha, should be banned, beaten up, taken outside and shot. 8-P
If nothing else autotune shows what poor amounts of "talent" our supposed pop and recording stars actually have, or better yet what little is needed to be considered a po(o)p star nowadays.
Right off the street, I could pull 25 people off to the side, and at least 3 to 5 of them would sound better than Ke$hea's real voice on a good day.
That her voice, like so many other singers today, need so much computerized tinkering to make them palatable, is a very sad state of affairs for todays current crop of "music".
Vocoder and other voice-pitch modification/modifiers used in many songs past, actually added something to the song and uniqueness of the voice/talent that was already present, not for covering up what wasn't there to begin with...
So, yes, autotune is here to stay, as long as we accept this crap as music.
