Subject: Fashion for the 10's
Written By: Emman on 01/05/11 at 8:11 pm
the 00's overall had a very clean, moderate look, some of the styles range from boho of the early/mid 00's to emo of the mid/late 00's.
Hip-hop fashion was also very dominant in the 00's.
What do you think some of the 10's fashions will be like?
I think the indie culture will have a huge influence on fashion in during the 10's decade
I think it will be very trippy, kind of wild, out there and I think Lady Gaga was the true start of this.
Overall it might be some kind of weird, quirky, indie look
I also think a more dressed up, "gentlemen" look is coming in now(which contrasts the thuggish, sagging pants, "immature" look of the 00's).

I've been seeing that for a couple years already. I've also been noticing that women have been dressing a lot more classy. I've noticed that since the late '00s.
However, this may simply be a late '00s holdover, and it's possible that it could die within the next year or so. I hope not, though, because I'm really liking this classier look.

I concur, I personally have been influenced to dress nicer. I cite a couple reasons: Inception is huge for dressing nicely, Mad Men which is finally mainstream, Even the way the Joker dressed in 2008 is a good example. The last season of LOST and the nice styles the cast wore.... GQ and other such magazines project a look that is high minded. A couple video games such as Red Dead Redemption and Mafia II are influential to a old school dressed up look. This year a game called L.A. Noir will reference 40s era fashion and a movie with Matt Damon called:The Adjustment Bureau could even bring the classic hat back. It could end up being only an early 10's trend but who knows?? I've tried the side part/ classic look... I kinda prefer the shaggy look of the 70s as I find that to be my main influence at the moment.

I'm also liking the classy look on women. Basically wearing hosiery/tights with shorter skirts/dresses, as opposed to the long raggedy skirts/dresses that were in style in the early to mid 00's. Then again, I've been living in Japan the last 3 years and I don't think the classy look ever went out of style over here.

Fashion for the 10s? I hardly saw clothes last year. The less clothing seemed to be what people were wearing. I saw more butt cracks and cleavage last year than I've seen in my whole life :D

I think those have always been in style for preppy kids.

In the 2000s hairstyles were usually very straight (especially for women.) and thin. When I entered high school I saw that a lot of girls were wearing their hair with curls on the end. Clothes at are high school are a lot more adult looking compared to wearing things with a lot of logos or sayings on them. I think by the middle of this decade bigger hair will come back, maybe not to the extreme of the 80s but I could see it becoming popular again.

I hope the 80s hair comes back. I'd like to wear it without looking crazy.

So now that the decade is coming to a close.. what do you guys think? Were the people right about 2010s having more formal fashion? I kind of agree that 2010s is more formal than 2000s fashion wise, especially the beginning of the decade with the hipstery stuff. I don’t know.. how would you describe this decade’s fashion?

Thread was right about the hipster/indie look. People on this forum like to pretend the mid-2010s and early 2010s are sooo different from each other, but it was obvious what direction we were headed in in the early 2010s/late 2000s.

I agree. It’s good to look back at these threads cause I think people can get a warped view of the past sometimes.

Someone was right about the 90s look though - that is so apparent now. No-one predicted the early 00s throwbacks though.

So you agree with my theory I made on that thread?
The way I see it they were different in some ways, but the same in others. We basically just had a transition from early 2010s to late 2010s, not an actual separate mid 2010s era.
But I agree with you, 2014 was not as drastically different from the early 2010s as people make it out to be. We had some hints in the early 2010s era where things would go. Looking back I do see it as its own little era, but in the grand scheme of things it was all just very gradual and consistent.

When the new year hits, I'm gonna make a new thread titled "Fashion for the 20's." For predictions about fashion next decade. (unless someone steals my idea and makes it before I do lol)

Slim95, I hate to say it but I beated you to the punch in regards to doing that. Sorry! I have to admit that I made that "Fashion For The 20's" forum thread too soon. The reason why I said that is because this thread was started one or two years into this decade. With that being said, I should have waited until a year after the 2020's started to make that "Fashion For The 20's" forum thread. Hey! What can I say? I jumped the gun. I got a little too anxious. I was like a kid who wanted to know what their Xmas presents were before Xmas day. Hahahahaha!
As for the fashion trends for right now, I have noticed that chest stripe shirts have made a comeback. In case you guys don't know what kind of shirts I am talking about, I am talking about these kinds of shirts:
https://www.google.com/search?q=chest+stripe+shirt&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjy-uL-x4vmAhVIR6wKHSt3AOsQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=chest+stripe+shi&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-img.1.0.0j0i8i30.18909.28174..31645...0.0..2.253.3327.5j21j1......0....1.......1..41j0i3j0i131j0i67j0i131i67j0i30j33i299.OtQuxfxoCuc&ei=DAnfXfLENciOsQWr7oHYDg&bih=508&biw=320&prmd=inv#imgrc=Or6NdBPdLKyJuM
I have been seeing those shirts being worn on a lot of TV shows lately. Also, aside from seeing chest stripe shirts being worn on TV, I have also see chest stripe shirts being worn in real-life. Matter of fact, I have been seeing chest stripe shirts being worn lately more than plaid shirts. With that being said, I guess the Hipster trend is starting to die off.

I feel like this trend peaked in 2017/2018 (we even had a huge flame war about it here then LOL) and is actually on the decline now. I'm not sure how long it will last into the 2020s.

Slowpoke, I was not a member of this forum back in 2017/2018. With that being said, I didn't see the flame war you guys had about it. Can you give me the link to the flame war you guys had about it so I can take a look at it?

Oh dang, I missed that. :P Well maybe when the new year hits you can ask the mods to move it over to the 2020s section and maybe they can do that when the new year starts.

Ok, Slim95. When the new year hits, I will ask the mods to move my Fashion For The 20's thread to the 2020s section so we can predict the fashion trends for the 2020s.
