I think weather-wise in 2011 we could get one more snowstorm that could bring another 2 feet of snow, another heavy gusty thunderstorm and this one will be very deadly probably in July or August,And maybe in August temps could reach 110 degrees in NYC.

Agreed. Also hopefully 2011 will be the final downfall of whats left of 00s-style rap, since there is still a little bit of holdover (*cough* Lil Wayne *cough*), .

I think emo will officially be dead too, if it isn't already.

By late 2011 we should be able to tell what kind of music will dominate the 10s.

As a High Schooler, I can tell you Emo is 100% dead. 100%! Nobody even mentions it now because it's dated and nobody even looks like an Emo anymore. It's dead. I have never actually experianced anything Emo since I just entered High School and was too young to see it. Thank god....

I figured high school kids wern't into it anymore. When I was a high schooler, not even that long ago (2005-2009) emo was all the rage. Things change quickly. What do high school kids listen to now, RG1995?

And to answer your question, I think indie rock, electronic rock, alternative hip hop, and some kind of updated ambient dance-techno-rave music will dominate in the 10s. More organic, traditional R&B music (like soul music) might make a resurgence beginning in 2011 too.

2011 will be the last year for Electropop, autotune and techno-hop, before they fall out of style in favor of the "core" 10s music. They'll go down as a stepping stone from 00s music to 10s music.

Anyways I will add to my above post.....

Fashion-wise will probably be an evolution of the new fashions and styles that began around 2008/2009...skinny jeans, neon, more formal look, etc. I actually wouldn't be suprised if dresses and/or skirts came back into style this year, since womens fashion has gotten more and more feminine and formal recently. You'll see more and more people adopting the 10s look in 2011.

The Economy and politics will probably stay the same. Gas will probably rise to over $4 a gallon again, causing problems.

Movies will probably still be stuck in the 00s, unless a backlash occours. A CGI backlash might occour. A lot people I talk to are getting sick of the oversaturation of CGI.

Cars will continue to get more sci-fi looking.

A number of things. Electropop is obviously big and so is Autotune Rap to a lesser extent. Indie Rock and Electronic Rock bands like MGMT and Modest Mouse are getting very popular. Same with Alternative Hip-Hop acts like Kid Cudi and Lupe Fiasco. Nickelback has almost no popularity. 90s Grunge and Gangsta Rap is actually pretty popular too. I definitly see 90s nostalgia becoming more popular than 80s nostalgia eventually in the decade, but definitly not in 2011

Indie music will have a breakthrough in the mainstream

I think Nickelback was good back in the day, but they fell off at least to me. How You Remind Me and Someday are pretty good songs. Post grunge along with pop punk and r&b/hip-hop is what was popular when I was in high school so I certainly have a soft spot for it, the younger gen yers seem to hate it more though I'd say it still was better than emo, I'd take Staind over MCR any day. Of course the real deal (Nirvana, Soudgarden, etc.) will always beat the later more corporate stuff.

Its true. Indie tends to be more intellectual, depressing and emasculated, while post-grunge is more redneckish party music singing about girls, love, cars, real life stuff (especially Nickelback and Hinder) so the people who listen to Nickelback are the jocks and cheerleaders.

How is Indie intellectual, depressing, and emasculating? Indie literally means Independant. It's basically the Alternative Rock of the 00s. There is no particular sound. And no, jocks don't listen to Nickelback.

Yeah sure, technically "indie" means independent, but it lost its meaning long time ago. If a brutal metal band is independent (no big record company) that doesn't mean its indie.
For the way I see it indie is a genre and radiohead are the masters of this indie sound. Every indie band now follows radiohead (coldplay is the biggest example). The Smiths are early indie.

A lot of people who listen to indie listen to it as a way to rebel against the corporate entertainment industry and the mainstream.  Most of them hate everything popular just because its popular.

Am I one of the only ones who thinks the current electropop craze will NOT define '10s music?  The genre is beginning to become an oversaturated fad much like the boy bands of the late '90s-early '00s.  There will be a backlash sometime in the next couple years.  What will emerge to define this decade is yet to be seen.  It will probably have electropop influences just as '80s music had disco influences, but will be a very different genre.  Electropop could very well be seen 10 years from now as an '00s leftover rather than true '10s music.

I never thought of electropop was a fad until you gave me the idea. Yes, it definitely could be a fad and by 2013 another genre of music might dominate.

It's far too early to tell what the dominate genre of 10's will be. Who knows? Maybe the 10's will be like the 90's and be a very mix decade. 1990 had 80's leftover sound. Grunge was huge from 1991 to 1995, gangster rap was huge from 1993 to 1996, teen pop was huge 1997 to the end of the 90's. Also acoustic and adult contemporary was huge. The 90's was a very mix and had no one definite sound.

I think the music is changing over from the electropop sound(became popular in late 2008) to a more pure european influenced dance style, electropop itself will be looked at as a late 00's/early 10's style, don't know why it would be considered a 00's holdover, it became popular at the very end of the decade. Alot of people are STILL making the mistake of lumping in all electronic music styles too which is inaccurate. Music seems to be getting more house influenced than electropop(since late 2010). I think in 2011 we'll start seeing some new styles creep in though, this should be a very interesting year for music.

I really don't buy this at all, in fact, if you look at all the past decades the music that was popular in the following decade was definitely apparent by the late part of the preceding decade
some examples

The 80's
New Wave/synthpop - around 1978

The 90's
Alternative rock - throughout the 80's but getting popular by about 1987/1988
House - 1988
Gangsta rap - 1988/1989

The 00's
Southern rap - 1998
Pop-punk which lead to emo - 1999

Flying DeLoreans will hit the market!  :D
Rock will come back with a vengeance. Something raw, edgy -- something like Nirvana, AC/DC, The Stones, the Stooges.
Nickelodeon will (at least) play Rugrats, Doug, and Ren & Stimpy for the 20th anniversary of the Nicktoon.
Kel will join Kenan on SNL.  :D
Daeg Faerch's movie, Sebastian will finally be released.
Rock biopics will include AC/DC and Styx. Jack Black will play Brian Johnson and Robert Pattinson/Justin Timberlake will play Dennis DeYoung.
Morgan Freeman will turn down the role of Fred Sanford in a S&S movie.
Blu-ray releases will include Jaws, Good Burger, ET, The Flintstones, Halloween 2-5, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.

DECADE PREDICTION: 90s nostalgia will hit it big with movies based on: Are You Afraid of the Dark?, 90210, Pete & Pete, All That, Big Bad Beetleborgs, Masked/Kamen Rider, Bobby's World 3D, Wayne's World 3D, and my own Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot trilogy.

I really don't buy this at all, in fact, if you look at all the past decades the music that was popular in the following decade was definitely apparent by the late part of the preceding decade
some examples

The 80's
New Wave/synthpop - around 1978

The 90's
Alternative rock - throughout the 80's but getting popular by about 1987/1988
House - 1988
Gangsta rap - 1988/1989

The 00's
Southern rap - 1998
Pop-punk which lead to emo - 1999

Dont forget New Jack Swing- 1987

Wouldn't be too surprising.  It really experienced a sudden, humongous boost of popularity in 2010, amongst the underground at least.

It also works somewhat well as a transition from 00s culture to 10s culture.  Dubstep is widely promoted as the "dirty" form of dance music.  Dubstep artists and fans proudly use words like filthy and dirty to describe their music.  Personally, I don't care for it and think almost all of it sounds exactly the same.
