Not to get too far off topic, but primates are also aren't exactly the wisest choice to keep as household pets either.
Here in Kansas City this last week (I swear to God I'm not making this up), there was a truck driver who had a pet chimpanzee that got loose and raised hell around the neighborhood. I guess it was running around and jumping up and down on police cars and flipping everybody off until the cops finally shot it with a tranquilizer dart. ;D

I saw that on Keith Olbermann. Who the hell does he think he is, BJ and the Bear? You'd think after the Travis travesty people would have a better sense of how dangerous Chimps are.

The local KC morning shock jock was having a field day with this, every time they mentioned this story they'd start playing the theme song from BJ and the Bear. ;D
I guess this guy has had this chimp for at least 10 years and has been having constant battles for years with the local authorities about the legality of all this. Thankfully the chimp didn't hurt anyone, it was described as being more playful and mischievous than anything else but after the Travis incident, why take any chances?

How about a bear as a pet?
When I worked at the library, we used to have a really nice lady that would come in with her daughter for storyhour. She had a pet bear cub, she brought it with her once and kept it outside (no bears allowed n the library unless you are Winnie Le Pooh or Paddington Bear). I was able to go out and sorta pet it, it was really young and she would come in with these deep gashes on her arms (I mean, I'd get the occasional scratch from my cat but these were deep gashes.) I think they had to get rid of it when they had to have a visiting nurse come to the house and take care of the husband, and the nurse got scratched (as I recall.) It was cute but I can't even imagine letting a bear run around your house. :o

I was at a friend's house one spring morning and a juvenile bear came bouncing through her back yard. He was adorable to look at, but I wasn't going to go play fetch the stick like I do with the dog!

How about a bear as a pet?
Lord Byron kept a bear while he was a student at Trinity College, Cambridge (reputedly out of resentment of Trinity rules forbidding pet dogs — he later suggested that the bear apply for a college fellowship).

"I am not a loony! Why should I be attired with the epithet loony merely
because I have a pet halibut? I've heard tell that Sir Gerald Nabardo
has a pet prawn called Simon and you wouldn't call him a loony; furthermore,
Dawn Pailthorpe, the lady show-jumper, had a clam, called Stafford, after
the late Chancellor, Allan Bullock has two pikes, both called Chris, and
Marcel Proust had an 'addock! So, if you're calling the author of 'A la
recherche du temps perdu' a loony, I shall have to ask you to step outside!"

Hey...any animal can be kept as an exotic pet.
I myself would like to have a wolf as an exotic pet, but it would have to be 2-3 weeks old and I may have to give it up a year later.

A wolf is not a dog. He will lick your face and then eat it! That's the difference between domesticated and wild animals.

I'm sure he would eat my face off if I got a lion but they are "cute"
I vaguely remember a couple of films (maybe starring Katherine Hepburn and Madonna?) where an eccentric millionaire had a leopard cub as a house pet, but can't remember what it was called now... Bringing up baby?
